Mary's father was John B. Gaines, a Civil War soldier who served in Co. E, 16th Kansas Cavalry. I located him in census reports yesterday and the bio I wrote has been added to the John Gaines memorial in Oak Ridge Cemetery. However, he may have been buried in Buster Cemetery, as there is also memorial for John Gaines there. I believe these two memorials are for the same person.

Dear Ms. Allen,
A friend of ours did some genealogy research on my great grandmother, Nancy Elizabeth McCall Seal. My grandmother was Margaret Seal Calhoun and my father was Alfred Leroy Calhoun. I had sent this same message to your email address but hadn't received a response, and thus posting the message here.
Your name appeared as being a great granddaughter of Nancy Elizabeth McCall Seal in several of the documents (Find A Grave) that our friend found so that is why I am contacting you.
A number of people in our family have mentioned that they thought that Nancy Elizabeth McCall Seal was either part of full Cherokee Indian. Do you know anything about this? My uncle, Joseph Doughty Calhoun, has done a painting of his grandmother Nancy Elizabeth McCall Seal, in full Indian dress. I am not sure if he did the painting from memory or from a photograph. He identifies her with the notation in the lower left corner of the painting.
By the way, I briefly met Hettie Elizabeth Seal Hawk at her home in Hennessey, OK in 1957 on a family trip. We spent a night with her. I remember that she didnít have running water in her house. One of the attached pictures shows her with my father in front of her house.
Thank you for your work in keeping the family history alive. I look forward to hearing from you. I would be glad to share some photos with you of my grandmother Margaret Seal Calhoun.
