RE: Amanda I (Andrews) Gotchall
I Ken,

After reading the article you sent I was wondering if Amanda could be buried in another cemetery. The reason I ask is there are actually 4 cemeteries in Indianola. There is the Indianola, the Cedar Creek, the Indian Hills and St Catherine's. The first 3 are all together, it is difficult to tell where one starts and the other one stops. St Catherine is across the street from the first 3.

If you would like I will be more than happy to check out the other 3 cemeteries for you. Should I find something I will let you know. I am not sure when I will get back there, but I will do it in the next few months.

Will that work for you?

RE: Frank and Jackie
Ken... As the great-grandson of Lois Miranda (Stiles) Masten...I *am* a Stiles.

At this point, however, I think this discussion would be more appropriately conducted off of Find-a-Grave. Suffice to say, the decision to put the genealogical heirlooms in my hands was one that Jackie made after Frank died, and unfortunately I don't have all of the items you mention. I do have one that you may not be aware of that, at least for our family, is the most precious of all.

Please email me at: bill@wherndon.net ...and I can fill you in.

Kind Regards,

Bill Herndon

RE: FAG Rules
Ken... In reference to the situation with my great-aunt Jackie: I *am* the Herndon who has possession of the family heirlooms (at least the genealogical ones). It was Jackie's wish that I take possession of them due to my having spent 20 years working on the family tree.

But to address your concerns about Find-a-Grave and memorial photos. You may consider it a disservice to the deceased, but that disservice is perpetrated by Ancestry.com, not I. Every photo I've taken, every grave I've walked, every scrap of information I've put into the memorials I manage and my family tree (http://wherndon.net/genealogy) is freely available for anyone to use and to benefit from as long as they abide by the terms of the CC-BY-NC-SA license. Find-a-Grave's Terms of Use are no longer relevant...only Ancestry's matter, and Ancestry claims the right to take anything posted to their sites and to force you to pay for it. That Find A Grave information is freely available today is no guarantee. Ancestry has, more than once, stolen researcher's work and put it behind their paywall. They, quite simply, cannot be trusted.

In conclusion, I would never alter or remove a photo that I had not, myself, posted. We're only talking here about the products of my own efforts, and I believe that actions and licenses that prevent an Ancestry from removing historical research from the public domain (including photos) is preferable. Others may, of course, disagree.

RE: pictures
Thanks for the comment, but I'm afraid I don't understand your objection. Are you opposed to removing photos from Find-a-Grave memorials, or opposed to the change in terms imposed by Ancestry?

If the latter, then let me just say this: Find-a-Grave's original Terms of Use gave them no rights to my intellectual property (my gravesite photos). Ancestry's terms, posted after they acquired Find-a-Grave, give them a worldwide non-revocable license to any photos posted on Find-a-Grave, and that includes placing those photos behind their paywall. All of my photos are made available under a Creative Commons, non-commercial, attribution, share-alike license. That license is incompatible with Ancestry's terms. Hence the reason they had to be removed from Find-a-Grave. All of my photos are available on Flickr with complete information and links back to my genealogy database. I simply refuse to let Ancestry steal for commercial purposes.

Kind Regards,

Bill Herndon

Again, I do not wish to transfer. Just use the edit tab if you have additional or use "family links" on the children you manage to add them.

I wonder if he is still on here. I know his health was bad and I have not talked to him for awhile.

transfers
Ken, I am happy to make transfers but don't expect them overnight . I work full time. I get at them as soon as possible. If you put your number and your relationship they will be transferred sooner as its faster for me.
