I also have a Cates line. Minnie A Stephens married Samuel Walter Burks. He was the son of William Henry Burks & Rachel Elizabeth Cates, dau of Isaac & Syrrena (Crow) Cates. The memorial for Rachel Elizabeth Cates Burks is # 18783887 where I've posted her photo.

RE: William E Lyle
My ancestor is Amanda Lavina Lyle (dau of John & Emily) who married Isaiah S Sanders. I descend from their oldest daughter Emily Elizabeth who was the 2nd wife of Green Berry Stephens. Her memorial # is 40958743 where I have posted several photographs of her. Their daughter, Minnie A Stephens Burks was my great-grandmother.

I have seen the reference to Merryman once before although not sure of the source. There was already a note on her memorial when Rhonda transferred to me. Do you have further information? I ordered a Merryman will from Kershaw Co, but it didn't list the children. I'm thinking it was the will of John Merryman however I can't put my hands on it at the moment.

RE: William E Lyle
Thanks for the clarification but I'm still a little confused. Was William Edward the son of Robert S & Sarah?

Thank you for the James Marion Jolly connection. You have all ready attached the parents so that is all we need to do . : )

John Ataway Jolly is my sister's husband's great great grandfather! Great connections. I love the photos you placed on the memorials. I would enjoy talking with you. I helped my sister with the Jollys of Tallassee last year and have just had so fun learning about the family.
Feel free to contact me again as I know there are some loose ends I would like to ask you. Maybe you can answer a few questions. : )

My husband is kin to both John and his wife Sarah Frances (Joyner) Cates.

Are you related to the Archers. I have a cousin who died in WWII. Lewis "Buddy" Archer had a wife and one child. He was my father's cousin. I never knew anything more than that. If you have more info to share, please let me know.

It's done. I knew Cas very well. I wish I had listened more closely to what he had to say. He had a wealth of knowledge.

Joyce, I have added your GGGrandfather to my Confederate Virtual Cemetery. It was my pleasure. I might go to that cemetery this weekend to take pictures. I'll look for your GGGrandfather. :)

I think I got them all, let me know if there are any corrections to be made. Also, let me know if you would like possession of any of them...
