Henry Harry Hensley wives
Sgt Hensley was my 6x grandfather. What I wish to know is which of his two wives, Mary Halen or Barbara Angel, was the mother of Henry Halen Hensley? It would seem that Mary Halen would be although I usually see Barbara listed as his mother. Mary Halen Hensley died in 1778 at age 18 yrs. I believe he married Barbara immediately, so it may be that Mary is the mother of Henry Halen Hensley and perhaps died in childbirth and he was raised by Barbara.

Does anyone have sources on this info?

Thanks, Sharon

Wrong Photo for Henry halen HENSLEY?
I am concerned whether to add the photo of Henry Halen HENSLEY to my family line as submitted to the Find A Grave site. Do you know the source for the photo?

I have studied fashion and photography for years and know from experience that the clothing shown in the photo cannot possibly be from pre-1821. The clothing appears to be from the 1870-1880 period plus, print photography was invented about 1840, and print photos weren't available before Henry died in 1821.

Any help you can provide would help me determine whether to add Henry's photo into my HENSLEY line. Thanks for your consideration. Sherry Cross, Westward Ho, Kansas

Info on the Hensley Family Lineage!
Hi Mike!

I saw that you'd placed information on Sgt. Henry Harry Hensley on FindAGrave. I believe he is an ancestor of mine - my 4th G-Grandfather. His son was James Hensley (Birth 1776 in Bumcombe Co., NC & died in 1830 in Oneida, Clay County, Kentucky. He was married to Martha May Howard & they had a daughter, Nancy 'Jessie' Hensley who is my 2nd G-Grandmother & was married to James Frank Hawkins. Nancy & James had a son, John William Hawkins (1847-1925), my great-grandfather, who had a son, Clarence Turner Hawkins, my grandfather. My daddy, Lewis Albert Hawkins was the only child born to Clarence Turner Hawkins & his second wife, my grandmother, Nancy Griffin Hawkins. I see in the FindAGrave on James Hensley the following:

Husband of Nancy Anderson Hensley. There is much discussion as to the parents of James Hensley, as well as his birthdate. One set of information has him born in 1780 to Henry Harry Hensley and Barbara Angel. Another has him born in 1796 to James Hensley (son of Henry Harry and Mary Elizabeth Halen Hensley)and Martha Mary Howard.

Family links:
Parents:
Henry Harry Hensley (1750 - 1821)

Spouse:
Nancy Anderson Hensley (1792 - 1862)*

I'm hoping you can clear this up for me. Do you know, or have you found out, if James Hensley & Martha Mary Howard are his parents? I don't want to include anyone in my family tree that's not proven. Do you know with certainty which is the real parents? I am at the point I can add Henry Harry & Nancy Anderson Hensley - but don't want to if that is not my true lineage. Any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated! God bless!

Henry Harry Hensley
Hi Mike! It's been 3 years, I know, since we've been in touch and went to the cemetery. The picture on Henry Harry's memorial. Is that him?? I wouldn't think there would be a photo since he died in 1819 or so. What do you think?

Ervin Hensley family
I found a photo of Ervin Hensley's family and I added it to his memorial. I thought you might want to check it out since he is your ancestor. I found it in a book titled "Images of Yancey County".
