I cannot remember not being interested in my family's history.|
It is important to preserve our family history and this is a great site for doing just that. One of the ways I preserve our history is adding a new marker in front of the old illegible tombstones and marking unmarked graves.
I am a member of Colonial Dames 17th Century , Daughters of the American Revolution, Daughters of the Confederacy, Henderson County NC Genealogical and Historical Society, and SC State Archives. I am also on the Board for Save the Light to save Morris Island Lighthouse
In 2001 I completed a book on Holston Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. The project started with my cousin, Margaret Metcalf Foster and I surveying the cemetery. After seeing how many graves were unmarked in the cemetery and knowing that many of these people were related to me, I decided to find out who they were. Working five years in five funeral homes, I was able to identify and mark 100 graves at Holston Creek Baptist Cemetery. When available, I added parents, spouse, and full birth and death dates to each person buried there in the cemetery book. Later, I entered all the names on Findagrave from this cemetery. As time permits, I am linking the people and adding more information about them. Since this is my project and I am related to many of the people buried here, I am not interested in transferring them. Thanks for understanding.
At the present time, I am doing a book on James and Ann Cole Johnson and their children all the way down to the present. It is the most time consuming project I have ever done. Please get in touch with me if you are a descendant and would like to be included in this book.
PLEASE do not use my photos without my permission.

|Melissa O'Brian||RE: Relationship to James Johnson|
I answered this to you in your e-mail that you sent me in addition this Find A Grave.
James had a brother, William 1777-1830; his son Jefferson Johnson 1809-1886 had a son John Martin JOhnson, 1836-1910, my great grandpa.
His son Harvey Columbus Johnson 1874-1955, is my grandpa. His son Oma Wincey "Jack" Johnson, 1909-1974, was my dad.
Hope this covers it for you.
Melissa Jeanne O'Brian
(born: Oma Jeanne Johnson; like Jack's son, I also changed the name, took his tep-dads name; Jack had a way of alienating his children!)

You chastised me for "You entered information on a floral entry (which is frowned on by Findagrave) the memorial for James Johnson, Sr. b. 16 Jan 1761 in Ireland, memorial # 11566780. You wrote that James Johnson is a 3rd great grand uncle to you."
Indeed, When we cannot add materials to Find A Grave because we don't fit the parameter of direct line or the individual will not transfer when we do...it is important to identify lineage of individuals on Find A Grave.
Like many others I have done so.
Many times now I'm being ignored when I communicate with other Find A Grave contributors...to themselves they keep the glory...& the lack of in-depth research on the individual they have entered! It is pitiful. Families need help finding/learning of their ancestors.
By the way, you are not the only Johnson in this large family line of my dads.
Arthur Lee Gregory's #52310581 parent's are John Fletcher Gregory # 36557821.. Mother is Adilia Ann Cornett Gregory # 36557803

Thank you for memorializing Mary, who I sadly never had contact with, but learned of her when I found she and I share a Duplicate memorial to a very special friend of mine.
Best wishes to you and the completion of your book.
We both know the rest is a 'never ending mystery'.
Always, in Find A Grave brother/sisterhood,

He's also my great grandfather. I've been researching for his 1st wife, Sara or Sarah Ann Poole 1850-1890 Greenville SC, which is my great grandmother, cannot seem to find her death info or where she's laid to rest. Any info you might have would be greatly appreciated. Regards, Teresa

Did you get to visit the cemetery?
|V Minchew||RE: Berry Greenwood Benson|
Thanks, my mother Odessa Benson Walters Barton always referred to him as cousin. Her dad was Milledge and his father was Moses. So I am unsure how he is related. But I will look up John and see if I can find if he fits in with my family. Thank you again.

#28856862 I see by your note that you are kin to Berry. Do you know who his grandfather Benson was?
Thanks for all you do.

Thank you. She was still independent living at home right up until the stroke.
She had a wonderful long life.
