After moving around the country for 38 years, I moved home to Wilkes County, North Carolina where I grew up. I have been looking for my ancestors for almost 50 years now. A lot of the first settlers in this area (Wilkes) migrated on to Georgia, Tennessee, Missouri and many other states. I am a 6th generation descendant of Sarah Boone, the sister to Daniel Boone. |
I live within 3-5 miles of the following Baptist Church Cemeteries in the county: Big Ivy, Yellow Hill, Blue Ridge, New Hope. Stony Hill is just up the road and the Lenderman-Powell Family Cemetery is on our property.
In addition to Boone, my other surnames are: Spears, Hamby, Dillard, Cardwell, Ashley, Owens, McGee, Church, Shepherd, Cartwright, Greer and Woodie to name a few.
My grandmother told me when I was growing up ... how do you know where you are going, if you don't know where you have been... I have been chasing those ancestors ever since.
I also do Genealogy Research and would be glad to assist you.
All memorials are entered with the greatest respect.
Please let me know any corrections needed or additions I can help with.

You are very welcome.
|Rita Wehunt-Black||Nancy Susannah Powell|
I happened to remember that N. Susannah Powell (Brackett) has a brother buried here in Lincoln County, NC at Hebron Methodist Church named Richard Isaac Powell. His Find A Grave number is #29023787. On his death certificate it says he was born in Rutherford County, and states under father that he is illegitimate. Under mother, it states that his mother is Jennie Powell, born in Rutherford County, NC.
Local Lincoln County historians say "Jenny" was Elizabeth Jane Powell.
The 1870 and 1880 Rutherford County (Golden Valley and Duncan's Creek)Census show these two children in the home with their grandmother, a Nancy Powell. Both children, Richard and Susan, are there, along with apparently their mother, Elizabeth Jane "Jenny" Powell. William James Powell, b. ca 1810 and wife, Nannie Mode may be connected to this family???
Why they dropped into this part of Lincoln County, I don't know.

I am temporarily posting the death certificate on the memorial for N. Susannah Powell (Brackett). I did not create the memorial and some don't like death certificates posted on their memorials, so I will eventually delete it. The death certificate has her father listed as Green Powell, but mother is unknown.
Perhaps she was a granddaughter and the death certificate in wrong??
This is not a family that I have worked on a lot. My expertise is German research, so you will have to converse with someone more familiar with this family.
Since there seems to be a question, I removed the flower offering, and really don't have the time or desire to debate the issue.
Good Luck with your future research.
Lincoln County, NC

I'm sorry about the delay in responding to your inquiry concerning my husband's family. I have been out of town, and just got back in and I am trying to catch up.
My husband is descended from Green Powell's daughter, Nancy Susannah Powell (Brackett), Find A Grave memorial #52190808, Lincoln County, NC, who was married to Robert W. Brackett, memorial #52190824. My husband's grandmother was their daughter. She was Vinnie L. "Fina" Brackett (Neal). She died at the birth of her son John Henry Neal in 1914. John Henry Neal was raised by his aunt and uncle, Mary Ann Neal (Black) & Lawson Black and took the last name of Black.
I hope this helps.
|SleepingDog||Edgar Hamby Memorial|
I had seen that someone else also has a memorial for Edgar, and they had more information, so I felt that I should delete mine. (Which I did).
|Karen Mickel Bennett||Frederick Mikeal|
I do not know who the other person is you suggest I merge the memorial with. I could not find another Frederick Mikeal besides mine. I am happy to place Frederick in Maple Springs Cemetery, but do not know which county the cemetery is in. Hope you had a Merry Christmas!

Thank you for the input. I can't even imagine how I did that.
|OBXr||RE: re moving memorials from Millers Creek Methodist|
Millers Creek United Methodist Cemetery/ aka: Friendship Cemetery is shown and mapped at 4705 Boone Trail, and most of the graves have been photographed. They haven't moved. If this cemetery now has a new name, then this should be corrected on *this* cemetery, with an aka added showing that it was the old or former Millers Creek United Methodist/ aka Friendship Cemetery.
I don't see the new Millers Creek United Methodist cemetery listed, but it should have its own entry with address and map. Any graves at that location which were mistakenly entered on Find a Grave at the 4705 Boone Trail location should then be moved into the new cemetery entry.

|OBXr||re moving memorials from Millers Creek Methodist|
My memorials are in the original cemetery entry. When someone duplicates a cemetery, memorials in the duplicate cemetery (#2328476) should be moved into the original cemetery entry (2134994), not the other way around. The description on the original entry does note that the cemetery is located behind whatís now Miller Methodistís Wesley Outreach Center. I donít think the cemeteryís name has changed in this case, but if it had, the change would be made to the original entry, not by creating a duplicate cemetery. Hope this helps.
