Bio and Links
My husband's nickname for me was "angel", so I decided to make it my public name. My sister and I work on genealogy so I know how important it is to find graves and how helpful it is. I like to cook/bake, read, crafts, and I love genealogy, except sometimes I am frustrated when I can't find information on my husband's side of the family. I also attend college and will graduate in 2009 as an elementary education teacher.

RE: 46124493 John L Claussen

Thanks for getting back to me on this one. I feel better now knowing that I did have the right name on the original list after all. I just wish I could find where I got it from!

I went ahead and made a memorial for Bertha Claussen this evening and listed her as burial unknown. That allowed me to list her dates for any other researchers to see. I put her in the proper birth order in her father's bio, plus I linked her to her mom and dad.

The little ones who died so young are the sad memorials. I hate to see any babies overlooked, even if they only lived a short time. I know they touched the lives of their families in untold ways.

Thanks so much for your help and for the specific dates. Keep up the good work!

Second try to explain links to siblings

I put the code lines in my first note to you, but they turned into links automatically making that note useless. Let me try it a different way.

Here's the starting line of computer code with two spaces added to it to hopefully prevent it from turning into a link automatically:

< a href="">Name< /a>

REMOVE the space between the < a at the beginning and between the < / at the end. That will give you the starting line of code. SAVE THAT LINE OF CODE!

1. Put the line of code in the memorial (without the space at the beginning and end).

2. Put the name of the brother or sister in place of the word Name.

3. Put the memorial number of the brother or sister in place of the X's.

Well, let's see if this works. Hopefully, it won't turn into a link automatically like it did the first time I wrote to you. If it does, I'll come up with a different way to show you how to do this.

RE: Question on #46124493 John L Claussen

There is no way to create a two-way link for brothers and sisters exactly like the one between parents and children or between spouses. However, you can create a one-way link. It's a little complicated, but here are the steps:

1. Copy this exactly:

Paste that in the bio in the spot where you want to make a link to a brother or sister.

2. Next, delete the word "Name" and put the actual name of the brother or sister there instead.

3. Then delete the X's and put the memorial number of the brother or sister in that spot.

Let me give you a made-up example. Let's say that you want to make a link to a memorial for a brother named John Q. Public and his Find A Grave number is 12345678.

1. Start by putting this in the memorial where you want it to appear:

2. Then put in his name:

John Q. Public

3. Then add his number:

John Q. Public

You now have a one-way link that will take you to John Q. Public's memorial. If you want to make a link back to the first person, you'd have to do the same thing in John's memorial, only this time name his brother or sister and their number.

It's easier than it sounds once you play around with it a little. Let me know if you try it and still have questions.

RE: Question on #46124493 John L Claussen
Hi Angel,

I found Bertha's name on-line when I was writing John's bio, but the source is no longer there. I always list children in birth order, so that means I was under the impression she was the Claussens' youngest child.

Since Bertha doesn't appear on census records or in Missouri or Illinois death records, I took her off of the list of children on John's bio.

Sometimes children who died in infancy back then weren't always listed in official death records. It's possible that Bertha may have been born and died before the next census was taken. If you ever come across any records that do confirm her existence, please let me know and I'll put her back on the list.

I wish my original source was still available so I could take another look at it. Sorry for the mix-up, and thanks for letting me know this needed to be corrected.

Happy New Year!

RE: Claussen family
Hi Angel,

I've added the information you sent to John Claussen's memorial as you requested.

It would help me keep things straight if you would include memorial numbers for the people you are talking about. It's surprising to put in a name like John Claussen, for example, and discover that there are 92 John Claussens on Find A Grave! If I know the memorial number, it makes it much easier for me to find the right one quickly.

Thanks again for the additional information!

RE: Claussen family

The only person who can link children to their parents on Find A Grave is the contributor who created or maintains the child's memorial. Since I did not create Dora's memorial, I am unable to add links to her parents.

I did write a note to the contributor who created Dora's memorial and asked her to include her maiden name and links to parents. I included their names and memorial numbers. According to Find A Grave guidelines, she has 30 days to up-date the memorial.

By the way, using the Edit tab on a memorial puts you in direct contact with the owner. Most contributors find that the easiest way to communicate with each other in regard to adding links or information.

I'm glad to be able to help get the Claussens linked together and added Dora's married surname to the list of children I have on her father's memorial.

Thank you! I have my another grandfathers memorial card here that also says Saint Hedwig but he's not listed on the site. Can you look in the general area of the Steslicki's for a Michael Alois Leech Sr? Don't go out of your way. I still plan to make a trip down before winter to pay my respects.

You are wonderful! I can't wait to come down for my own visit. I only have Helen listed on my family tree as one of Peter's daughters. Don't make a special trip out there, but if your there for another reason snap a pic.

I have also found out that my Grandfather Michael Leech Sr. is buried there. So, as soon as I can afford the gas (lol) I'll make a trip down to see who else I can find.

Thank you again,
