| Bio and Links | I've been researching my Brinegar and Riley roots since 1999. I've traveled to Alleghany County, North Carolina and several counties in West Virginia and Maryland documenting cemeteries and historical documents from genealogy libraries and court records.

I don't know. We drove by it one day and I stopped to take pictures. In looking at the cemetery index for Surry Co. I am not finding a White Rock Baptist Church or Cemetery. Check this site for the list of burials in 2008 or 2009.

I am sorry, but I am not able to provide any further information than was contained in the obit. Mary Thomas married Frank Starrett, John Starrett's baby brother. They got married in Oct-1911 in Whitley Co. Ky. They had Mable, James & Nesbit Starrett. Nesbit Starrett was (b) May-17-1917 and (d) Sept-13-1918 from acute dysentery. James H. Starrett was (b) Jan-06-1915 and (d) Feb-04-1988 in Hinton, WV. I don't know where Mabel went after the 1920 McDowell Co. W.V. census. W.S.Thomas last wife was named Rachel and he died Dec-29-1930 in McDowell Co. W. V. fro dropsy & old age and it say's he is buried at Rockridge W. V. His son Henry was the informant. And W. S. Thomas father was named Henry. I have all of the census for W. S. Thomas and family (I Hope). | | | Deane Hoskins

Hi Chris sorry about the To whom it may concern in my last post. I have a copy of the 1940 census on my computer desk top from Heritage Quest that I get through the library with my library card so there is no link but I would be glad to send you a copy to an e-mail address or put it on here if possible. The marriage record's are in paper form that I got from the Whitley Co. Ky. court house again I can send these to an e-mail address also, I hope. I live in Clay Co. Ky. but I am from Williamsburg Ky. The Starrett's as far as I can tell came from maybe N. C. into TN. then on into KY. following the coal mining jobs. Rachel Thomas was born in Carter Co. Ky. to William Sylvester & Amanda Wilson-Thomas although I have not been able to find her mother's name in to many documents other than a 1900 census and maybe a death record I believe she died young. I also have birth certificate's for Rachel & John's children George, Bessie & Josephine Starrett. I would love to see a picture of Rachel and an obituary for her do you know of any one that may have one? Here is what the census say-West Virginia, county, Raleigh, Slab fork district, Apr-19-1940
Brinegar, Dee head age 40
Rachel age 38
Dora age 15 daughter
Betty Lou age 7 daughter
Starrett, Josephine age 24 step-daughter
I just happen to look for Starrett's in West Virginia again and seen the name Josephine Starrett and that her mother was Rachel and lucked up on it being the one I have been looking for, for ever. | | | | [View all messages...] |
