|John Chapla||P.P. Claytor|
Just found your entry for P.P. Claytor on Find a Grave. I have written the histories of the 42nd Va and the 48th Va as part of the Virginia Regimental Histories Series. Carrried as Pleasant P. Clayton on the rolls, he has a fairly extensive record with the 42nd Va beginning in Aug 1861 as a musician, then drummer, drum major, principal musician and was paroled at Appomattox as chief musician. A postwar roster of the Valley Brass Band, 48th Va, lists him as a member of that band. A diary from the 48th Va. makes reference to P.P. Clator in 1865 as "our drummer." Would like to know more about your P.P. Claytor who also appears on a Feb. 1862 roll for Wm. V. Jordan's Bedford Heavy Arty Company -- later (May 1862) Co. G/ 34Va Inf.
