"Those who spend their time looking for the faults in others, Usually make no time to correct their own."|
Missing my son, Mark Allen Israels. II.
November 20, 1988
July 6, 2012
Losing a child is the most horrific pain one will ever feel.
The "Hillside Cemetery" in Reno was my motivation for Find A Grave. I had been a resident of Reno for 20 years before I knew of its existence. I finally found where the Hillside Cemetery was located and when I went there I was so appalled, outraged and shocked at the condition of the final resting place for many of Washoe County's finest citizens.
I started researching the cemetery online and found a survey prepared by Dolores Samuels Young and Mildred Chandler Pressell, back in 1955. Thank God, these ladies took the time to record all of the headstones that were legible at that time. Without their survey who knows how many people would have been forgotten.
I try everyday to find some little piece of information for the people buried in the Hillside Cemetery.
I try to post all information I find on a person, I believe it's sharing not stealing, especially if I take the time to research the information I find. Not everybody has the means to find the same information. I hate to think that a picture I found in a yearbook, or in a library and didn't share might have been a relative's only chance of seeing it. I'm forever grateful to others who shared pictures of my family with me. I also post obituaries especially from the 1800's. I think people like to see them. With that being said, I hope you see me as a contributor who wants to help in every way possible.
May God bless you and keep you safe in his loving arms.
Please be honest with me, if I entered a memorial and it was a family member of yours I am so willing and understanding to transfer them to you, but, please don't send me messages telling me I duplicated the memorial that you entered when it clearly shows that I entered mine in 2007 and you entered yours in 2010. Just say hey when I first started on Find A Grave I didn't realize you could transfer memorials over and I wanted to be the owner so I duplicated the memorial. It's not about numbers so I would've gladly transferred ownership over. But, don't try to be dishonest about it. I am always willing to transfer family.

I'm so sorry for the loss of your beloved son. I have 3 sons & 3 step-sons & I can't even imagine the pain of such a loss. You have turned your loss into something beautiful & meaningful for so many, though. Bless you for that!
George Marcus Vickroy (memorial # 15853013)& Phoebe Smythe Vickroy (memorial # 15853019)were my great aunt & great uncle. We visited them often in Montgomery Creek when I was growing up. I would greatly appreciate it if I could be granted management of their memorials.

I am so sorry for your loss.
I enjoy reading the old newspapers at the Library of Congress website and then trying to match the stories and articles to memorials here on F-A-G. I found an obituary for Dr. David Rulison, who it appears was a prominent dentist in the Reno area. The obituary has some valuable biographical information and gives the identity of some family members. I thought you might like to see it.

I am so sorry for your loss.
Thank you for posting Minnie Augusta Gilbert Twist's Obituary.
Her husband was my 1st cousin 3x removed. I wouldn't have known she had a brother named Fred without it and now I am looking for Fred.

Thank you so much for posting Thomas P Brown's obituary. Old obituaries tell so much and are not always easy to find. Thomas P Brown was born in Ohio. His grandfather was Jeremiah Byron Brown.

Thanks very much for transferring the memorials you added for the Jarbidge Cemetery. I work with the local cemetery association and am trying to document everyone who is buried there. We have added land to the cemetery, put up a new gate, and created lanes through the sagebrush. Still a lot of work to do!

They are fine photographs, it's not easy looking for tombstones, it's hard work, I appreciate that you were so kind to do the leg work.
Thank you so much.
