Bio and Links
Bio Photo I have been doodlin' with my family genealogy since 1993, researching both my parents sides. Genealogy has been a very rewarding experience, and has answered alot of my childhood questions and curiosity. I'd be more then happy to share with anyone researching same families. Just give me a holler! :)

I KINDLY ASK THAT YOU DO "NOT" COPY AND USE MY PERSONAL FAMILY PHOTOS FOR YOUR USE FOR THE PURPOSE OF PUBLISHING ONLINE, OR TAKING CREDIT FOR SOMETHING THAT DOESN'T RIGHTFULLY BELONG TO YOU, nor do I give permission for anyone to post my genealogy and/or photos on ANY pay sites. This would include any/all family connections I have posted. If you are interested in a copy of my PERSONAL photos, or my work, "YOU MUST CONTACT ME FIRST" Thank you

RE: Martel

A lots of the Metis living in and around Pembina and Turtle Mountain area that migrated to Montana were Littleshell....these people and the Little Shell of ND are one and the same. Pierre Berger, leader of the group that left the Pembina area, was the half-brother of my 4x grandfather Louis Laframboise, son of Cecile Dumont and Jacques Berger. Cecile m.2 Joseph Laframboise.
There were also earlier and later migrations to MT.
The women in my profile pic is Louis Laframboise' granddaughter; my 2x grandmother.

RE: Martel
Thanks Jan :)

Actually the 1850 Pembina Census of MN Territory became part of Dakota Territory by 1860. The Red River separates the two states :)
I am from Bismarck by the way and currently in beautiful central Idaho.

You know that Felecite was also married to Charles Houle right? Daughter Philomene Houle was born 16 Mar. 1874 at Wood Mountain, SK; married 1893 at St. Joseph (Walhalla), Pembina County, ND to Joseph Garriepy (Gardipy?).
Jean Baptiste Martel died 25 December, 1887 at Leroy, Pembina County, ND. Received "Half-Breed" Scrip under the Pembina and Red Lake Treaties 12 April 1864; scrip #141, issued 5 March, 1873; 160 acres; issued to John B. Martel husband of Josette. Also on Pembina Annuity Roll, Way ke ge ke zhick's Band, 1868.

Hi Jan,

I wonder if you might have other picturs of Felicite Martel's siblings? In particular I would love to see one for her elder sister Marie Louise Martel b.1830 d. 1866. I don't even know if there are pictures that long ago? Marie Louise died in St. Joseph (Walhalla) during a winter blizzard in 1866. She was found 8 days later buried in snow. That info came from her son Joseph Laframboise' Pembina County Pioneer Biography,1938.

You need to delete the entries you made and then go to the children I added, click on "edit" on the right side, then on "suggest a correction" and make a request for a transfer of management of the memorial to you.

Charles Cavileer 1749-1815
Dear Jan,

I was so happy to find your information on Charles Cavileer. I am a great-great-granddaughter of Charles H. Constable. I had a suspicion that Charles' mother's name was Elizabeth Cavileer, but wasn't sure. I also thought she might be related to Thomas Spottswood Hinde's 2nd wife, Sarah Doughty Cavileer Neil. It never occurred to me they might be sister's.

I have several questions. What does "calculated relationship" mean? Who is the grandson who kept a journal? Do you have any information on the time this family spent in Ohio?

I knew Charles Constable was born in Chestertown and went to the University of Virginia. Then he appears in Mt. Carmel, IL. I couldn't figure out how or why he went to Illinois. I am happy to share information that I might have.

I believe I saw that you had not found Elizabeth Ann Cavileer Constable's grave. It is in Chestertown Cemetery near Robert Constable's. I believe I have a photo. I am new to Find A Grave. If you are willing to give me your regular e-mail address, I will try to send it to you that way. Is there a way to send a private message?

I look forward to hearing from you.

Charles Zahnow
The State of IL put out a military honor roll that listed Charles as being buried in that cemetery. The book is not perfect and occasionally I have found errors, but just because there are no other Zahnows listed in that cemetery doesn't mean there are none buried there. There was a Zahnow family in that area and they could all be buried there, but it just hasn't been recorded yet in findagrave. Actually there are no other Zahnows listed in all of IL in Findagrave, but we do know that some lived and most probably died there.

Question for you.....
Jan, I know this may seen odd but since you are my relative and I want to know about my mother's side of the family would it be possible for me to meet you? I live in West St. Paul. My mother was taken away from my Grandma Marcy when she was a baby. My mother found Marcy again when she was 18yrs old. I knew my grandma but I was never interested in learning anything while she was here with us. I dont know if you were present at my grandma's funeral but THomas was her father, Your dad's brother. I wish I could have met my great grandpa but they all died so young.I'm just curious to hear about the family. Please let me know. My phone number is 651-230-6926 or you can just message me.
