For years my Dad took care of assigning the graves at St Peter's cemetery in Gentilly MN. He loved doing the research on the older family names and he also did extensive measurements of the cemetery plots, trying to piece together where some of the original graves are from back in the 1890's that are no longer marked. He gathered information on the very early burials by looking in the books at the Polk County courthouse and at the Crookston Diocese records office.|
I want to share all of this Gentilly cemetery information on Find A Grave for others to be able to see glimpses of their family history.
I am currently working on linking the Gentilly families together. This is a "hobby" that I enjoy doing. I go the Minnesota Historical Society in St. Paul and look up obits, death, & birth certificates to put the pieces together.
If you have any photos of your ancestors please add them to their memorial. I will gladly link your family together, post your obits, and add any other information or photos you may have.
You can contact me by clicking on the "Edit" tab at the top right of a memorial and then choose the top line "Suggest a correction or provide additional information".

|Logan||Kelly Family in Gentilly|
Hi Nancy, excellent work on the cemetery in Gentilly, thank you! My grandmother Viola Marie St. Martin was born 1914 in Gentilly, daughter of Mary Ann Kelly and William St. Martin. My g-g grandfather James Kelly came from Quebec in about 1885 to Gentilly with his family, and he was originally from Ireland in about 1845. What I was wondering, does the church there have any specific burial or baptism records in addition to what's recorded at the courthouse? I've also seen reference(from 1975) to a "Census of the Parish of Gentilly" and St. Peter's parish records from the 1880s, which was referenced to have been in the possession of St. Peter's church. Wondering if you'd ever seen these records or knew if they were still in the possession of the church? Thanks for any help or insight....

|Mary Priske Fecteau||Family Links|
Thanks so much for adding the family links to Regina Prudhomme's and Alvina Desrosier's memorials. Also, thank you for adding the photo of Regina. It's always nice to have a photo to attach to the name. ~ Mary

|Maureen Vaudrin Laughery||Vaudrin Baby's|
Thank you Nancy for the transfer of the three Vaudrin Baby's. I will be doing some up dating on them soon.
Thank you for the recent info you provided. It looks like I have been concentrating on the wrong Anthime(s)!
I had Christophe Anthime baptized in 1866 in St. Isidore, Laprarie, QC. whose parents were Francois-Xavier & Marie Thais Bazinet. This Anthime had siblings that lived in the Gently, & Red Lake Falls areas; Rapheal-Isaia (spouce Louisa Page) as well as Francois (spouce Virgine Patenaude). Their daughter, Bertha Trudeau married Albert Gervais from Gently, MN.
Another Anthime appears in the 1940 census for Red Lake Falls, which has him at age 73 (would have been born around 1867). He is described as a father in-law)living with the Brule family.
And according to the Drouin Collection 1621-1967 for Quebec there is yet another Anthime baptized in 1866 whose parents were Louis Trudeau & Emilda Bazinet.
I guess I am back to where I started from.
Its been a bit confusing, any suggestions?

Nancy, you've posted a photo of the stone for the name of this cemetery. I am the Dakota Co. Genealogy Society newsletter editor and I would like to print a copy of the picture along with a short description of the cemetery in our next newsletter. Would you mind if I use the photo with credit to your name? Thanks.
Hi Nancy! I have been researching some of the Trudeau families in the area of Gently, MN and have run into a "brick wall". I wonder if you can help a little.
The person that I am most interested in and is listed in the St. Peter's cemetery, is Antime (Anthime) Trudeau born abt. 1866 in Quebec and died abt.1955.
Apparently, he came to the Gently, MN area around 1886 where shortly afterwards married a Denise Martin who was from Red Lake Falls, MN.
I have been trying to connect him to his ancestors but after trying several avenues I draw a lot of blanks.
Some of the info that might help would be his exact birth date, his marriage info and a list of his children besides the person that I do have; Isaac Trudeau born Aug. 3, 1900.
My wife is a distant relative to the Trudeau families as well as to the Gervais families.
One of them being Aurora Gervais (Deziel) from Maple Lake/ Mentor MN.

|DMDeFoe||Note of thanks|
Nancy, I just want to pass along a note of thanks for all of the hard work you have done on Find a Grave and on your research in general. I am David DeFoe, descended from Pierre Dufault. His son Stanislas (John DeFoe), my gggrandfather, was one of the brothers that settled farther south in Atwater, MN. I visited Gentilly last summer and I appreciate the work you did tying family names together and documenting the cemetery there.
Thank you very, very much.

|Joyce Edgar Phipps||William (Bill) and Alexander Couette|
If I were a betting person, I would bet they are brothers. Strange there were no survivors or even any family members mentioned in the obit. With the inscription "Brother" on Alexanders stone, I would also bet William had the stone put on Alexanders grave. I can not find anything in the 1940 census to connect them. Bill was listed as William on ancestry. The next time I go to East Hill, I will look in the new grave section and also in Block 45 for William. He might be in a family plot bought by William when Alexander died. Dang, I hope that made sense!!!
