Walking, I am listening to a deeper way.
Suddenly all my ancestors are behind me.
Be still, they say. Watch and listen.
You are the result of the love of thousands.
~ Linda Hogan (1947-present)
"No love, no friendship, can cross the path of our destiny without leaving some mark on it forever."
~ Francois Mocuriac
THE FORGOTTEN GRAVE
After a hundred years
Nobody knows the place, --
Agony, that enacted there,
Motionless as peace.
Weeds triumphant ranged,
Strangers strolled and spelled
At the lone orthography
Of the elder dead.
Winds of summer fields
Recollect the way, --
Instinct picking up the key
Dropped by memory.
~ Emily Dickinson
by JOHN MASEFIELD (1878-1967) found after his death in a note left for his"Heirs, Administrators, and Assigns":
Let no religious rite be done or read
In any place for me when I am dead,
But burn my body into ash, and scatter
The ash in secret into running water,
Or on the windy down, and let none see;
And then thank God that there's an end of me.
A COUNTRY BURIAL
Ample make this bed.
Make this bed with awe;
In it wait till judgment break
Excellent and fair.
Be its mattress straight,
Be its pillow round;
Let no sunrise' yellow noise
Interrupt this ground
~ Emily Dickinson
"They say such nice things about people at their funerals that it makes me sad that I'm going to miss mine by just a few days." ~ Garrison Keillor

Got it, thanks!

I searched Holy Cross Cemetery but I could not find a marker for Mary Breslin. Just like my family member who I drove there to locate, only a plot of grass.

Hi - I could not find a headstone for Tanda Pratt. Sorry. It may not have been placed yet. The yellow flower should mark the spot.

|wwii researcher||WWII veterans|
Many of our WWII veterans who are buried in Europe, have been adopted by local families who are grateful for their ultimate sacrifice in liberating their country. I have met a few of these adopters and find they treat our fallen (or MIA) veterans with respect and dignity. These people help these men be remembered.
I am volunteering with a Dutch non-profit group which is assembling a database of our veterans in 3 cemeteries in Belgium and Holland. This site (http://www.fieldsofhonor-database.com/) is searching for information and photos of these men.
You have a picture of Capt Walter Whiteside which is not posted on the Veteran's website. I would like to ask your permission to use the photo so he can be known to many. Is that possible?
Thank you in advance.

William Floyd Luckie is my Great-Great Grandfather, thanks for posting the photo! My Luckie line research ends with James Luckie (1780-1843). If you have any further info it would be greatly appreciated.

|Lynn Mullis Wright||John Wooten, Sr.|
I'm a descendant of William Wooten and I've found on Ancestry.com that John and Mary Wooten are his parents but there are no citations that prove this. The person who posted this virtual grave is no longer living and I saw that this person is your 5X great grandfather. Do you have any records of his descendants? I'd like to know if William Wooten was really John Wooten's son.
