|I transfer according to guidelines but if you send me the information, I'll be more than happy to add it in. I received this lovely reply back when I stated the above and am quite perplexed by the answer I received:|
I do not send information to someone who all they care about is how many memorials they control! I have talked with others who have asked you for transfers and have gotten the same answers. This site is for sharing genealogical information, not about how many memorials you can create and maintain, but you know nothing about the person.
I find it ironic that this person WON'T send me the information because I want to control the memorial. First off, I don't control anything, I maintain them. Second, doesn't it seem a bit controlling to withhold the information because YOU can't "control" the memorial? It also states that the site is for SHARING genealogical information and yet, again, this person wouldn't share the information because they couldn't control the memorial. To correct that statement, this site is NOT for genealogical information, it's a cemetery registration site AND I do share, they have been listed for EVERYONE to use and add to. You can add in the genealogical information in the bio section (see below).
I don't see genealogical in the description of:
What is Find A Grave?
Find a Grave's mission is to find, record and present FINAL DISPOSITION INFORMATION from around the world as a virtual cemetery experience.
Memorial contributions to Find A Grave should fulfill that mission - REGISTRATION OF THE FINAL DISPOSITION. If the memorial contribution corresponds with only the main mission, then the memorial fulfills its purpose as part of Find A Grave's mission.
Find A Grave is a RESOURSE for anyone in finding the FINAL DISPOSITION of family, friends, and ‘famous' individuals.
The last sentence of telling me the site isn't for how many memorials I can create and maintain is again false. The more memorials that we all list, the more we add to the data base to fulfill the mission of this web site. I don't see "genealogical" listed in the description but it does state:
What can I include in a non-famous bio?
Genealogical information about the subject can be included in the biography.
The above is the ONLY reference to genealogy in the FAQ's. The only statement that could be correct is that the person has spoken to others who state that I don't transfer out of guidelines. That should let everyone know that I'm consistent. Of course I'm not hardcore about out of guidelines transfers, I've transfered a lot. I will not transfer to someone who doesn't appreciate the work I've done. I'm very proud of the numbers that I MAINTAIN and I won't apologize to anyone who feels differently.
Thank you to those who pass along the information and are thankful for everyone's hard work here. I appreciate all information sent my way. It shows me that you want to honor the deceased by making the memorial as complete as possible, not just wanting to be a collector of names. In fact, it is stated that bulk transfers are not allowed which tells me that name collecting is frowned upon since this ISN'T a genealogical web site.
