I am a twenty-four year old recent college graduate from Alexandria, VA, USA. I discovered Find a Grave entirely by accident one evening in the summer of 2003. I immediately looked up some of my favorite performers and was deeply touched by the kind, heartfelt tributes left for these people. I was also surprised and very happy to learn that so many others like the same entertainers I do. I continue to leave tributes to actors, entertainers, authors (I have an M.A. in English), classical musicians, opera singers, and artists I admire. THANK YOU AND GOD BLESS TO ALL WHO HAVE LEFT VIRTUAL FLOWERS AT MY INTERMENTS! (P.S. Thank you. I was going to revise Marie's original page as I am doing with some of my early efforts and found that she was cremated at one place then buried at another, thus allowing her to have two pages as do quite a few others. Both of her pages have the same bio. I tried to include a painting BY her as well as OF her but that got deleted.

Great!! I shall look forward to reading it. Make sure you put in where he grew up and trained if you can. He held the record for "oldest opera singer" until Mr. Ceunod broke it; both were Emperor Altoum. You'll have to email me direct if you want me to see it as my computer access will be limited to my Blackberry from this afternoon until Wednesday evening. You know how to submit it?

You are correct. Twice. He had a long life and he was on the "Tales of Hoffman" recording. I checked on Amazon; he wasn't on the cast list for the CD version, but his name was on the LP jacket.
I wrote to you on facebook about re-writing Giovanni Martinelli's bio. Do you want to take a shot at it? The one he has now is pretty sad.

Mea culpa. Mea maxima culpa. I SHOULD have been very familiar with Mr. Steane. Amazon has his 3 volumes, though the cost for volume 1 is way excessive. I keep "The Grove Book of Opera Singers" on my desk at home and often use it when writing bios.

Most perceptive comments, Nicole. I agree that Warren was a bit uneven. Actually, I'm listening to his 1950 "Rigoletto" at the moment, and I certainly see your point. Not that Warren was "bad"....
You Tube has a lot of Tibbett material you might enjoy. The "Otello" duet, of which there are several versions, is stupendous. Tibbett had faults as a person, but I am unaware of any as an artist. There are stories that on nights he and Bjorling sang together the house would have exploded had a match been lit onstage. The probable reason that Toscanini used Peerce instead of Bjorling (both were RCA artists) is that Peerce could be depended to show up sober and do his job and Bjorling couldn't.
If you want a valid comparison for Tibbett, check out Todd Duncan in the "Porgy and Bess" records from 1940, of which You Tube has some; the bit about Gershwin wanting a "colored Lawrence Tibbett" for Porgy is not idle talk...their timbre was very similar. And Gershwin was a genius.

You flower for Tibbett was most excellent. Though I usually only do rewrites for attractive ladies, I made an exception. What he had before was probably the sorriest excuse for a famous bio I ever saw. He apparently wasn't much of a person, but he was a fabulous singer.
