I was born in Jersey City, NJ and lived there for the first seventeen years of my life. The only grave I ever visited was my grandfather; he died in 1960. I didn't know that, within view of his grave, just accross the street, was the unmarked grave of my older brother. The Viet Nam War, and my part as a medic from age 17, put me in contact with many more graves and the people who would visit them. |
I am now a retired Police Officer living in Fairborn, Ohio. I have been an Evidence Tech (now called CSI), Forensic Photographer and Death Investigator during my career and I suppose I'm still doing those things now - as a hobby.
Darlene and I had to put Cherry Grove Cemetery in Xenia, OH on 'standby' and are working in Rockafield Cemetery on the campus of Wright State University. This old pioneer cemetery has been expanded to include donors to their Anatomical Gift Program and the records that I've been given go back to 1970. It will be a busy winter for us but we are not even half-way done with photographing the memorial bricks that line the walkway through the cemetery.
We are still working on finding the graves of soldiers in the USCT and the 54th and 55th Massachusetts Infantry who are buried in Greene Co., OH but this is mostly book-work now.
Any 'grave photographs' I have taken are public domain; copy them and use them as you please.
*TRANSFERS: Most of the memorials that I have posted are not related to me, they are projects that I have taken-on. I believe that ANY relative should be able to take over management of these graves. Just ask me.

Wayne, thank you so much for providing me with info about Rockafield, and for posting the 'markers' for Norman Earl and Virginia Amon.

Hi Wayne - Follow up to let you know Calvary verified Eugene's ashes were indeed interred on 9 March 2012. I also mentioned Rockafield, in a slim chance Calvary might have something in their files about it, but they don't. Good luck with your meeting next week.

Really appreciate the photo - and pointing out that I hadn't assigned the cemetery. Great work you're doing. Regards, Richard

Hi Wayne - Thanks for posting photo to Eugene's memorial at Rockafield. Eugene's marker at Calvary is at the head of his parent's headstone and Calvary has a plot location for him in their database, so most likely his ashes are at Calvary, but to answer your question, no we are not absolutely certain of that. Eugene's grandfather and my husband's grandfather were brothers and both are buried there along with many others in the family, so there's also a history with Calvary. Will look forward to hearing results from your meeting with Mr. Guthrie on Sept. 22. On my end I will check with Calvary next week to see what they say. I certainly enjoy working with folks like you who go the extra mile to uncover all the details.

Hi Wayne - First thank you so much for finding the memorial brick for Eugene Demeter and taking the wonderful photo. We did not know the brick existed. (Eugene's mother and my husband's mother were 1st cousins.) You mentioned the Anatomical Donor Program, so do the bricks represent those who participated? Since the brick is located within Rockafield Cemetery, I believe having 2 memorials for Eugene is the solution, as one would be considered a cenotaph. I went ahead and made a memorial for Eugene at Rockafield (135758633). Have included his obituary on both memorials and referenced them to each other. That way each will be searchable and can have their own photo, otherwise someone would most likely duplicate your photo at Rockafield. Would you be willing to move your photo to Rockafield memorial 135758633? How does that all sound to you? Please let me know what you think and thanks again. Sheila
