Bio and Links
Bio Photo I am an avid searcher. I have enjoyed many walks through cemeteries with my camera in hand. Now I need oxygen 24/7 which makes travel a little more difficult. I do take binoculars with me to cemeteries that I visit. I am so thankful for my husband who assists me whenever I travel. He makes cemetery visits possible for me.

Please do not add Death Certificates to the memorials I have placed on Find A Grave. Yes you are within your rights to place a death certificate on a page. I, personally, feel like it is the same as having it posted in the funeral home at the time of a person's death. It just takes away from the reason I created the memorial page. Find A Grave began as a way of connected families together and honoring them by visiting and placing flowers on their graves via internet. This website is to honor those who have left us. It was not created as a place to add all information about a person that we place in our family tree. When we begin to add US Census information, death certificates, etc., we begin to loose sight of the purpose of Find A Grave. Thank you in advance.

"The copyright of all photos posted to Find A Grave remains with the original submitter. No use of photos for any other website or personal use is permitted without the prior consent of the original submitter." Find A Grave

I have placed these memorials on Find A Grave so that we would be able to visit their graves to pay our respects. I do not leave my house much any more and this website has given me the opportunity to travel many places and place flowers on their graves. I hope future generations will smile when they find the family member they are searching for and be pleased.

It is disheartening to know that when I die, someone can take over my work and change everything that I have done to honor my family and those surrounding them in their places of burial unless I designate someone to care for their Memorial Pages.

When you find errors, please e-mail me. I will do my best to correct them.

RE: "Sandy" 30235908
Thank you for changing Sandy's memorial. I understand the various reasons for quotes around names, the problem is Find A Grave doesn't deal well with names in quotes. For example even tho Sandy was a nickname someone may have tried searching for her but her name would not have been displayed because of the quotes. Everything from and including the first " disappears.

That is your idea for the website but the problem is that we don't own the website, make the rules to use it or pay the bills to keep it online. So therefore we use the website according to the rules of the administrators/ owners.

I see nothing wrong with a death record on a memorial page for a person. I think it adds validation to the memorial and I have had many, many people thank me for the death cert. And I am always happy when I find a family member's memorial and there is a death cert there for me to see. So not everyone thinks the same about the memorial page as you do. So we are helping the family in many ways.

Thank you for answering my question and I hope you can see that it adds to the memorial, not the opposite. Which is why the website owners allow them to be posted on the memorial, I'm sure.

Have a good summer,
SLW

Findagrave (a free site that allows us to post memorials according to the rules they set forth) states in their rules found here:
http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=listFaqs#155

"May I add a death certificate to a person's memorial page?
Death certificates may be added via the "Add a photo" button on the memorial page. Please select the option for "Other" in the "Type of photo:" to be added, as it is not a Grave, Person or Family photograph. NOTE: Death certificates do not necessarily contain completely accurate information about the deceased. There are often errors regarding the final burial location (as well as other data)."

I followed the rules, so why can I not post it there?
