While doing my own direct line, I also do research on all descendants of John Rathbun, an early settler of Block Island, Rhode Island. This includes the spellings of Rathbun, Rathburn and Rathbone.

I also research the family of Samuel and Matilda (Southworth) Sargeant of Middlebury, Vermont.

Mildred Ann "Milly" Cooper Rathbun

How did she end up in Orofino Idaho?

You are the definitive authority on Rathbun's!

Clora Emmon Rathbun
Hi Robert in your profile you say you search all descendants of John Rathbun. I was wondering which one. I've found at lease two in Rhode Island.
I'm asking because my great grandmother is Clora Emmon Rathbun.
Thank you

Mendon Cemetery is the correct one for the Rathbun's. I mistakenly put them in both, sorry for the confusion.

You are very welcome. Glad I could help. Apparently I forgot to add photos for his wife, Mary, but I have added them now. I would be glad to transfer them to you, if you are a close relative, which I'm assuming you are since your name is the same.

RE: Nathan Bowman
I have no idea about Nathan Bowman's parents. The obituaries did not mention their names. The 1850 census was the first with all names in the household. I will try to see if there are death records for Nathan in Elma, Iowa. Because of your message to me about Elija, it made me think about looking up the death index for Myrtle Bowman. She was on the death index for Polk county, Iowa and died on March 24, 1929. Now I only have Elijah & William without death dates.

RE: Nathan Bowman
Hello Robert,

I have not been able to find Elijah Bowman. Because of your message I decided to add the Bowman obituaries to my tree for the Bowmans. Nathan died in 1897 and both obituaries for him showed that there were seven children. The three from his second marriage to Elizabeth Jane Lowry are the surviving children. She had four children and three survived. This is on the 1900 census. This means that there were three children with Sarah Rathbun. George died in 1894. See obituary I posted on ancestry. So, it looks like Elijah died before Nathan because of what the obituary shows. I received these obituaries from the History Center of Olmsted County, Minnesota. Although there were three surviving children, it was only my great grandfather John L. Bowman who died in Long Beach, CA that I know his date of death. I have not found William or Myrtle after the 1925 and 1930 census. I hope that this may help you. Have you researched Cynthia Rathbun. She is on the 1850 census with Nathan & Sarah and children. She may be a younger sister of Sarah Rathbun.

You are correct. The photo belongs with memorial #50309365. However, you notified the wrong person.
retired97-#47146662 took the photo and placed it on the wrong memorial. I will notify him. Thank you for noticing this.
