I have been doing family genealogy since 1981 after my dad died of lung cancer, his parents died when he was a child and he asked that I get to know them and their history and one of my mom's sister-in-laws was doing genealogy on her side of my family so we worked and learned together. That aunt in later years had a stroke and couldn't remember or help though when we started out we did all letters, queries and library and government searches manually (by hand) and then on typewriter. I've been able to learn much more when resources came online. I am NOT a professional genealogist though have helped many through the years and helped correct misread census records even for families I am not personally connected with.
I've not worked alone nor do I want to take credit for those friends and family members who have shared and researched with me. So I'd like to thank:
Aunt Doris Marie Leonard, Aunt Lizzie Holman, Aunt Audrey Cleek, Aunt Nancy Watkins, Great Grandma Effie O'Dell McClelland Hankins, Grandma Belle Hankins Leonard, Grandpa Earl Leonard, cousin Tammy Spring, Uncle Jack Leonard, uncle EJ Leonard, cousin Jo Dorais, cousin Kay Jamison Lane, cousin Ray Thompson on the Nancy Sherrill Rogers side, cousin Sandy Sharpy, cousin Terri Santiago, cousin J. Randall Houp, cousin Gene Hankins, Aunt Nancy Green, Aunt Mae Smith, Aunt Emma Penn, Aunt Audie Cobble, Uncle Buster, Uncle Jason (all Neelys), cousin Emma Mae Gilbert, My Dickson cousin who sent me so much Oakley/Kindley information, Aunt Rosa Underwood, cousin Warren Neely, Uncle George Neely, cousin Juanita Hill Leak, cousin John D. Little, Grace Parke Renshaw, cousin Leah Heiden, cousins David and Belle Myers, cousin Susan Dexter, cousins Carl & Cherry Fisher, cousins Bob & Lois Small, cousin Glen Leonard, cousin Doyle Loveland, Uncle Harry & Aunt Pearl Hayes, Aunt Marie Roberts, Aunt Lena Neely, cousins JB & Carl Holmes, cousin Jim Neely, the many Grammers met at the Springdale, AR Grammer family reunion, Maria Guadalupe Serrano Gomez, Merced Gomez, Michael Serrano, and that wonderful little lady who was the city or county clerk near Collin County, TX who passed away many years ago that went to all the cemeteries looking for my Neely's for me.
If those who helped me are not mentioned they are not forgotten, just too many to remember. Especially to my parents, thank you for instilling in me a sense of family and knowing that even when I/we experienced bad, trying and/or negative things we could always talk about it honestly and work through it.
Thank you for helping me to honor my family and friends and leave a bit of them behind reminding of the sacrifice and places of honor left in our hearts and minds.
Mary McClelland Searching for Mary for you. Do you know if this was a babe or if any approximate age to be looking for here? Who were the parents, maybe she is buried near her parents. Just a little bit more information could help. Betty Martindale Cooley
Thanks Thank you for all of your work on the Plumlee family! A few years ago I went to visit Dr. Isaac Plumlee's grave in Gorman, Texas. I guess his little sister and her family traveled with him to Tx as they are all on the census together in Eastland Co. Then James and Rachel Sanders moved on to Stephens Co.
I think your David Leonard was the JP who married James and Rachel Sanders in Stone Co, Mo, if I remember correctly.
Interestingly, while researching my Ball family in Wise county Tx, I found Dr. Isaac Plumlee held a public office for a few months during reconstruction. He served along side a Ball relative who had been a Union sympathizer. I doubt the two of them knew at the time that their descendants would one day meet in Oklahoma and marry. (I'm assuming this was the same Dr. Isaac Plumlee who was the son of Joel M and Rachel Plumlee. I feel almost certain it must have been.)
RE: John Phillips 106885133 Done, and you are very welcome! Am always happy to oblige folks with more to contribute than I. If you determine that any more need to be worked on, just let me know. --Harriet
John Phillips memorial Thanks for sponsoring the memorial, Jo Anne! I added it because John Waggoner had made those lovely photos, and not because of any family connection or research. If you would like for me to transfer it to your care, I'll be happy to do so. If not, let me know if there is additional information you'd like to see included. --Harriet
