Those we love don't go away ~ They walk beside us everyday ~ Unseen, unheard , But always near ~ Still loved, still missed and very dear *
Death comes once, but a cemetery is forever
Phillip M. O'Shea
The quality, not the longevity, of one's life is what is important. --Dr. Martin Luther King Jr
Please feel free to contact me about any graves I have listed. If I have listed someone that you are related to and I am not and you would like them transferred to you, please just let me know. If we are both related then I will have to think about it. Please feel free to use any of my photo's anywhere you want.
And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.
Your tombstone stands among the rest;
Neglected and alone.
The name and the date are chiseled out
On polished, marbled stone.
It reaches out to all who cares
It is too late to mourn.
You did not know that I exist
You died and I was born.
Yet each of us are cells of you
In flesh, in blood, in bone.
Our blood contracts and beats a pulse
Entirely not our own.
Dear Ancestor, the place you filled
One hundred years ago
Spreads out among the ones you left
Who would have loved you so.
I wonder if you lived and loved,
I wonder if you knew
That someday I would find this spot,
And come to visit you."
A LIMB HAS FALLEN
A limb has fallen from the family tree.
I keep hearing a voice that says, "Grieve not for me.
Remember the best times, the laughter, the song.
The good life I lived while I was strong.
Continue my heritage, I'm counting on you.
Keep smiling and surely the sun will shine through.
My mind is at ease, my soul is at rest.
Remembering all, how I truly was blessed.
Continue traditions, no matter how small.
Go on with your life, don't worry about falls
I miss you all dearly, so keep up your chin.
Until the day comes we're together again.

I took pictures of all the Shields in this Plot.
8 people altogether:
Mary Ann Shields
Archibald Jenkins Shields
Edward Jenkins Shields
Jane Adamson Shields
Mary Ann Jenkins Shields
Robert Cunningham Shields
Some of the dates don't match up with the original marker. This marker is worn and weathered. I will upload all those photos to Edward. There are 4 sides.
Distant relative to Hattie Kirby I found my answer by talking to Jacob's daughter. We had a lovely chat. Our families lived in the same community and interacted socially. How are you related?

You are welcome. Actually we live in Michigan , but were vacationing in New England. I was thrilled to finally visit so many of my ancestors graves.

Thanks so much for this obituary. I've added it to her memorial. She was Joe Rourke, my father's first cousin.

Hi, I guess we might be cousins way back.
I have been working on my Hazard ancestors. The tombstones from the early ones in Rhode Island must be all gone.

|With Love Always, Edith||Hello Barbara,|
From our house to yours ~ Wishing you and yours a very Blessed and Happy Thanksgiving!
Love, Edith & Family.
|Charles Mattes||RE: Greenhills Memory Gardens|
I have about 800 photos to crop and title before submitting them. There remain approx. 5400 more to be taken. I have had my interests sidetracked as I am working on the "Hicks" of Tazewell & Russell Counties of VA and McDowell County of WV. But I will return as the weather cools and I spend more time indoors.
I'm sorry, but ill health prevents me from going to the cemeteries anymore. Sorry.
