|I am descended from Hugh and Margaret (McLain) Hanley from Enniskillen of County Fermanagh Ireland. The family immigrated to the Huron District of Ontario Canada in 1838. There were ten children. One son moved to Oregon, at least two went to Michigan, and several other children stayed in the Goderich area of Huron County in Ontario. Hugh died shortly after arrival in Canada and Margaret died in Port Huron Michigan in 1867.|

I think that in some small way we honor our ancestors by the simple act of remembering. My goal is to provide a roadmap by linking my family so that future genealogist can more readily find those they seek. This task can be difficult when maiden names are lost to history.

Question: I see on the 1860 census for Cass Co. that George and Mary have their first baby born in Michigan, and that is Leander, who is 5 months old on the census. The census was done July 12, 1860, so I figured that 1857-1860 was the time frame they might have come from Canada.
Lewis is the next child up from Leander and he was born 1857 in Canada and Sarah is not on this census, having died 1859 in Michigan. However, Lovicy Jane died on Christmas day 1857 and is buried in Dowagiac, so I think they immigrated from Canada in 1857 when Lewis was a baby. However, Sarah was born 1858 in Canada and died in Michigan so they couldn't have immigrated in 1857. So you can see I'm really confused. HELP!

Thanks for telling me about George. I must have gotten this batch of Phelps people from Find a Grave admin. because I have never heard of this cemetery & can't remember adding people to it. I don't know where I would have even gotten information to add this family since I haven't seen any records on them. Sometimes AJ @ Find A Grave gives me pages from deceased, banned, or inactive contributors to maintain and they will have my name but I have no clue where they came from. I removed George from S. Wayne Cemetery per your additional information. Thanks again!
