 | SP and Mary Jane Brown of Evergreen Hey Terry, Had a question on the photo on Mary Jane's memorial. It is that of her husband's. Is there anyway you can add a caption stating that as she doed not have a headstone. We did find a rock marker buried just to the right of SP. Presume that is hers. Had someone come out to the cememtery looking for her marker and they were a bit upset when they could not find it. Thanks, Sandra | | | Anonymous
 | Joseph Wood Was wondering if you are any relation to Joseph Wood? He was married to Sarah Ann Williams Pickel Wood. She was my great, great grandmother. Just was wondering since you posted the picture. Would love to see what she looked like....I have a picture of my great grandmother. But wonder what Sarah looked like. Anyway...have a great day. | | | R.G. Bradshaw, Jr.
 | Photo Change Terry: Go to the memorials now and see if the photos are correct. Sorry for the mistake. Bob. | | | Judy Richards

 | Thank you Hi Terry-- I appreciate the transfer of Deacon William Ward. I'm just now packing for the family reunion and trip to New England, and I hope to develop the page beyond the info I've already shared with you-- hopefully with a photo of his grave marker, assuming one exists. I'll give you a heads-up if I find anything. | | | Bill Velde
 | RE: Deacon William Ward #6190756 Hi Terry-- you were writing this at the same time as I was writing the email I just sent you. My descent from Obadiah is through his son William #69708591 whose dg Jemima m Nathaniel Walker #69708207. Their dg Rebekah married into my direct Moulton line (my mother's maiden name). One problem I've found is that there are so many Obadiahs in this 3 or 4-generation period, they're hard to keep apart and easy to morph together. I'm going to travel to MA and CT this summer to dig through records and take some gravestone shots of my own. This is quickly growing into my major project-- it's hard to put it aside and work on something else for a while.

 | RE: Deacon William Ward #6190756 Hi Terry-- good to hear from you, and I'm glad you're interested in the kind of stories beyond the stats and obituary-style honorifics-- I agree, it makes these long-buried kinfolk "come to life." I'm also comfortable with the fact that many of our ancestors wouldn't be known to us if they hadn't been haled up in front of a judge for "celling cyder to the Indians" or "raffling on Sunday." Such documents make them seem like bigger rascals than they really were, but they add proportion to the stuff they're honored for in their lifetime. William Ward's father and brothers seem to have been more itinerant than most, and they did a bit of what we'd call "running scams" nowadays. For example, William's brother "A. Warde" was arrested on Oct 22 1634 (in Oswestry Shropshire) for "abusing His Majesty's patentee for retailing of tobacco," and his brother Thomas went up on Dec 16 1635 (in front of a Privy Council star chamber no less) for "going up and down the country with a Lyon." I wish the family copy of "The Life of Artemas Ward" had ended up in my hands, because I recall there were a number of court-docket goodies. BTW I don't know if the "crime" involving the lion was the ever-popular pitting of them, bears and boars against dogs-- or simple exhibition. But the charge was similar to the tobacco infraction-- infringing on a patent (license) the government had sold to someone else, in this case a man named Gill. That's a taste, anyway-- you can appreciate the problem of condensing a mass of anecdotes like these into a bio blurb. Looking for online text of the book I mentioned, I came across a vital-info site that draws on it: http://www.noyesgenealogy.net/showsource.php?sourceID=S578&tree=noyes . William Ward's page is at http://www.noyesgenealogy.net/familygroup.php?familyID=F8041&tree=noyes , and my descent is through a son Obadiah whose page is here: http://www.noyesgenealogy.net/familygroup.php?familyID=F16125&tree=noyes Let me know if you don't care about sources (any two will disagree on certain points), and I won't take up limited space with them. Now I'll take a break and look further for online text, or see if I can locate the book on Amazon. | | | Bill Velde
 | Deacon William Ward #6190756 Hi Terry--great photos of the grave markers! Are you interested in putting together a bio? I have a ton of interesting info, including some of the scrapes w the law he and his family got into in England. Also stories about King Philip's War, and info about his Atlantic passage. Email me at billvelde@gmail.com if you want to collaborate, or if you don't want to so email, or are busy (or he's not your direct ancestor), please consider a transfer of management and I'll do the work. I'm not claiming any right to "own" the site, and understand if you want to maintain it. My ID is #47500604 | | | | [View all messages...] |
