Hello,
I tried to send an e-mail to Firecops@aol.com and it was bounced back. I have some questions about this family and would prefer to contact you privately.
Thank you.

Henry Goetschius
Mr. Gutches,

My name is Joyce Lilly and I work for the Franklin County Veterans Service Commission in Columbus Ohio. I am trying to obtain verified service information (any documentation) on Henry Goetschius in order to place a new government headstone at Henry's grave free of charge. I am currently working on replacing veteran's poorly damaged headstones at the Union Methodist Cemetery in Columbus, Ohio off of Frank Rd. where Henry Goetschius is buried.

In order to do this, the Veterans Affairs requires that my office verify that Henry was a veteran. I see information listed by you on Find A Grave that Henry served in the War of 1812, but I am trying to obtain documentation on this in order to submit it to the Department of Veterans Affairs. Documentation can or could include any rosters or the Centennial History showing dates of service, place of service, rank, ect.

I have checked with the local Ohio Historical Society, but I couldn't find information on Henry. I have also researched information through the Franklin County Genealogical Society. This office is stating that they found information on an Ensign Henry GOETIERY in the Roster of War of 1812 Soldiers (page 10).

I also spoke with a Genealogy expert at the Columbus Libarary and I am being told that Henry Goetschius was not found in the roster books, but a person by the name of Henry Gutches was found in the Roster of Ohio Soldiers in the War of 1812. Henry Gutches was an ensign in Capt. George Gibson's Company and served from December 31, 1814 until February 23, 1815.

Can you verify that the above information is correct with documentation? Since you are a family member (I am assuming) can you tell me which last name did Henry serve under? Was it Goetschius, Gutches, or Goetiery? Different resources are advising me on different names.

I do not want to make an error and have a headstone created with incorrect information on Henry Goetschius. And even before requesting a headstone I need proof for the Veterans Affairs that Henry Goetschius served in the military.

Any help would be greatly appreciated! I'll look forward to hearing from you Thank you for your time.

If you can email me back I would appreciate it
