RE: Note left for Bob Novak
"...And we know it was Richard Armitage, not you or Scooter Libby who exposed the CIA desk clerk Valerie Plame, contrary to the bio. Rest in Peace..."

This note will not do. I'm asking you to withdraw it. If not, I'll ask the Find A Grave administrators to turn off the virtual flowers feature for Novak's page.

Conservatives throws out Armitage's name as the "leaker." They make it sound like the first person to utter a secret is wrong, and everyone who comes after him to utter the same secret is in the clear. If Armitage was "first" then no one else can be at fault. That's false.

In fact, anyone and everyone who reveals a secret has committed a breach and can be prosecuted. If you reveal that Jenny Doe is a secret CIA operative, and a reporter asks me about it, I'm STILL not permitted to say anything. As a for instance, what if the reporter is seeking corroboration bfore publishing? If the SECOND person never says anything, the secret stays safe.

Here's another possibility -- you tell a reporter that some woman named Jenny is a covert CIA officer. The reporter calls me and I say "the only person I know who works at the CIA is Jenny Doe." NOW the reporter has something he didn't have before, the complete name, and he has it as the result of the SECOND leaker's action.

How do I know what I'm talking about? 27 years (and counting) of military service, including deployment to Iraq. I'm currently a Major, and you should feel free to assume that I have a security clearance.

Finally, your claim that Valerie Wilson wasn't covert is opposed by everyone with first hand knowledge, for instance CIA Director Michael Hayden. Hayden was a four star general in the Air Force. Are you, a supposedly patriotic American, going to contradict a career officer who is clearly no liberal?

Thank you for your consideration. I'll look forward to hearing from you.
