With much of my immediate family growing in and around the Washington D.C area for generations, I was never overly curious about family history. After a friend who was more interested than I found photos of relatives gravesites in other states who were born during the time of Andrew Jackson I was amazed. Even a marker for my grandmother's unnamed infant son which I had seen in home movies had been photographed by someone.|
I am most familiar with DC area's, Holy Rood, Arlington Cemetery, Oak Hill and Cedar Hill Cemetery on Pennsylvania Avenue. I have taken many photos for my own enjoyment and for friends over the years, but realize others are often not so near.

The staff on the grounds don't want you to have evidence against them like when they mow over and break the ground stones or bury them.
Most of my relatives stones are either missing or underground. I complained many times only have it fall on deaf ears. They don't care if they can't make money from it.
|William Boswell||RE: Loughran|
I think I already manage the Loughrans that belong to me. There are others that you photographed, but I have no proof that they are related. Thanks for the offer.
I know about the unfriendly staff at Mt. Olivet. I used to go out there a lot in the early 2000's when the staff was more cooperative and even gave me records at no charge. Now they can't be bothered.
If I show up and there's a funeral going on, I just sit at the front gate waiting for it to end. If there are too many funerals then I'd go home. The last time I was there was in 2009 and they didn't seem to care if I took photos or video. They're lucky anybody visits that cemetery since it's in a dangerous neighborhood. I heard gunshots the last time I was there.

Thank you for adding the photo to this and other memorials at Mount Olivet Cemetery in DC. Your photos look better than the ones I took back in 1999.

I see you posted a photo of Anton Lorenzen's marker (#51984096)--thank you. Was it at Arlington? When I called for its location there, they said they had no record of him. Or is it somewhere else? Great photo, thanks for all you do as a Find A Grave volunteer.

Thank you for providing details on the departed.
You had wondered if the obit for Ada had provided a correct birth date for her... which seemed to conflict with your understanding of her being born in Nov. 1860, nearer to her young mother's death.
Ada was listed as a 3 Month old baby in the 1860 Census and her mother, listed as Lavina, was alive at that time.
The Census was enumerated 16th of June 1860.
So, while it may certainly be true that Catherine Lavina died in Nov. of that year... it would appear that ADA was born several months prior to her mother's death... possibly as early as MARCH of 1860... if we count back three months from the June census date.
AND that does agree with the OBIT data for Ada.

Thanks very much for checking in! That is my wife's great Uncle. We have all of the old family photo albums and I tried to post all of the find a grave pictures that I could find.
|Fred Sanford||RE: Depue|
Cool! That photo could be added to many of the family's memorials since they are all in it. Please do them sometime. Thanks, Fred
