WINTER 2016 MESSAGE:|
We recently moved to Salem, Oregon, so are behind on our edits. But we will get to yours as soon as we can! Sorry for any delay.
My husband and I enjoy finding monuments for other people and am extremely grateful to the volunteers who have found my own people for me. We've been working on finding the little pioneer cemeteries in the area and putting their inhabitants online. Four of our memorial pages even helped to catch a gravestone thief. Cemeteries are extremely vulnerable to vandalism, theft, negligent cattlemen, and the damage of time and weather. We appreciate all of the volunteers out there who are working so hard to document them before they are lost to history.

I'm not a numbers addict or collector, but I adhere to Findagrave policy:
◊Find A Grave's primary purpose is a graves registration website.
◊Find A Grave's secondary purpose is a memorialization/remembrance site.
◊Find A Grave's tertiary purpose is a genealogical resource.
Transfers are only made within the guidelines set up by Find A Grave. These guidelines are in place for a reason - whether one cares to accept them or not. I am not going to debate what the owner has deemed acceptable for his site with members who choose not to agree with the guidelines. "The ultimate goal should be to have meaningful, accurate memorials that honor those who have passed away, regardless of who created the memorial or who maintains it." I am willing to consider transferring ownership to you if you have a close family member among my records. I rarely transfer relationships more distant than first cousin... just having someone "in my family tree" or "a relative" will not elicit a transfer.
If you want information added to a memorial, go to the memorial and use the "Edit" tab to send me the information-- including family links. I will add information to the memorial, I do not transfer just because someone wants to add links or other information. Bottom line: what are you planning on doing with the entry that I haven't already done or am unable to do?
On the other hand, if you upload family photos or in some other way add value to the memorial, I am much more willing to transfer. I will always transfer a memorial if you sponsor it.
I welcome all corrections to my own work. Some records were imported using OCR so have inevitable errors, both from the original records and from machine interpretation. I am only human and make mistakes, too, but will always make it priority to correct them.

Thanks for catching that. It was the next photo on the camera.

Ha! Not likely! I live in Asia and visit my father, who lives near Belcrest, every couple years... usually around December. That means you'll likely be avoiding the inclement weather when I am out and about!!!
Take care - and enjoy the rain. It keeps Oregon beautiful!

Please remove the number 939167 from Johann Jacob Dreisbach's Memorial. His DAR Ancestor # is A033632. The number you put is my number showing he's my Patriot through DAR.
|Steven Michael||RE: Antelope Cemetery - OLD|
Sorry for just now getting back to you. I did make to both Antelope Cemeteries. When I do my blog on them, the story about the process will be comical, and sketchy all at the same time.
I did take a lot of pics, but I must say the pics you took at the old cemetery look great. :)
I am SLOWLY getting to the Antelope Cemeteries. It has taken me a while to get all photos edited from my cemetery trip last June.
Wow! I see that you have been active in Salem! I always welcome additional information for these memorials as I am not in a position to pursue many of them!
Glad to see that Salem has another pro-active graver~~ cemeterist!
I know we have sent each other edits in the past. I haven't bothered with GPS so far. When you can, I hope you will check out WVGS. In the meantime, welcome again.

I want to thank you for all of the edits, I have accepted them without verifying. I know that you have either the records in front of you or you have done the research. In any case, you are on MY accepted list, LOL.
Welcome (back?) to Salem.
Maybe we will meet at a Willamette Valley Genealogical Meeting.

I am apologizing in advance for the photo I'm posting. In addition to the sun being at entirely the wrong angle, both Daniel's and his wife's stones are covered with lichen and pretty well unreadable. Then we have the issue of the huge Russian Olive tree growing between them. . . . Sorry this didn't turn out better :-(
Thank you for posting his death certificate and letting me know about it :) Have a great weekend !
