These heroes are dead. They died for liberty - they died for us. They are at rest. They may or may not sleep in the land they made free, under the flag they rendered stainless, under the solemn pines, the sad hemlocks, the tearful willows, and the embracing vines. They sleep beneath the shadows of the clouds, careless alike of sunshine or of storm, each in the windowless Place of Rest. Earth may run red with other wars - they are at peace. In the midst of battle, in the roar of conflict, they found the serenity of death. I have one sentiment for soldiers living and dead: cheers for the living; tears for the dead. |

In the end, never let yourself become complacent to those who have went before us, always make time to remember the sacrifices that have been made for us by our Ancestors and the Men and Women of our Armed Forces who have guarded our Constitution with their lives, some gave all to secure our rights, liberties and freedom, 100's of thousands never came home....let us not forget as that would indeed make those a life lost in vein...
A Nation which forgets its Defenders, will itself be forgotten ..

I was there this morning and as you say his is not there. Her marker has now been set and I will post the pic. The office said they can't reach family so they can order one for him. :(

Hi Michael - I had requested a photo for Samuel Dawson & I think you uploaded it on June 20 - but that was the day photo uploads were ending up on the wrong memorials. There's 2 different photos on Sam Dawson's page that don't belong.
Do you still have the photo you took ?

Thanks so much Michael Drachman for the photo and beautiful words!
