I (on the right) am a member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans, Private Lorenzo Leigh Bennitt Camp #773 in Durham, North Carolina. I am a member of the Point Lookout POW Descendants Organization. My wife and I have been doing genealogy together for almost 20 years. It is our passion. Through my genealogy work I have identified over 900 kinfolk (grandfathers, uncles, and cousins) that served in the Confederate States infantry, cavalry, and navy.|
My loving wife and best friend Joyce passed away on Christmas Day 2012 after a battle with pancreatic cancer. When I return to taking my trips to libraries, archives, and cemeteries to continue my genealogy research it will be very difficult without my better half. We worked so well as a team. I miss her. Her memorial is #102701133.

John, sorry for your loss! Thank you for all your contributions to the Findagrave website. I would like permission to use your photographs of my relatives' grave sites in my Family Tree files. I use the photos as source media and will gladly give you credit for your work. Becky
Read your profile again, how are you a son of confederate ? Suspect not thur your Stewart Quaker/Baptist line they were so antislavery. I have a story about my g-grandfather Flavius who fought in Ohio on the Union side when he lived in Paola, Kansas. Short story he stopped a riot in town when a mob tried to hang a black man, later sadly that night when he had gone home he was hanged anyway.

Hi cuz, nope born and live in Kansas City, Missouri. My line of Stewarts went to Warren co., Ohio Robert Stewart and Ann Hornaday son Alexander Stewart and Rebecca Clark, only living son Robert G. and Nancy Vandervort Stewart to Flavius and Eugenia Wheeler my g-grandparents to my lovely grandmother Hallie Octavia Stewart Phelps, then their only child my mom Mary E Phelps Abbott!
And thank you for agreeing with me. How does your line go and have you done DNA yet. I did and the Stewart line comes thru strong.
Have a good New Year and blessings.

Yes John am well aware of it..sorry about you losing your wife.
He is my my 4th or 5th g-grandfather. If you notice the other one and check her page she has not been active for a long long time (at least since 2010). I tried for over a year with no response. I suppose if you wish you can report it, it would be a shame to have a bare memorial for Alexander.

|Darrell Landrum||Pvt John L Martin|
Hi John, I posted a photo of the common burial area marker where Pvt Martin is buried in Old City Cemetery, Confederate section. A little tough to see his name as the sun was not cooperating, but he is 5th from the bottom on the marker. One of the people at Old City told me that this large marker was cheaper to purchase than individual markers, hence all the soldiers in Lot 178 have their names listed. If I remember correctly, this marker was put up early in the 20th Century, 1920ish.
