|My obsession now is the Confederate Soldiers of Randolph County, Georgia, USA. Some are marked with a government marker, those you know were in the war, then there are those that have a family marker, these you don't know unless found in the MSR. (military service records) There are some buried here that have no marker. These I'm working on to get marked. I've lived here all 72 years & I'm having a great time. If you have a veteran, any war, buried here, I need their names, what war, where buried. I'm Flo Merritt Young of Shellman, Ga., Randolph County.|

According to Early Co, Georgia, newspaper accounts:
William Archibald Carter had substantial holdings in Early Co., GA. He owned sawmills, stores and other real estate. On September 1, 1903, he was involved in an altercation with one of his renters in the town of Rowena, GA. Will Talliaferro shot Carter in the head while his oldest son, William Alton watched helplessly. He succumbed to his wound, September 4, 1903 in Arlington, Early Co, GA
Will Talliferro, was charged with manslaughter for killing W A Carter, however his trial ended in a mistrial. The prosecution elected not to retry the case.
William Archibald Carter was born November 12, 1858 in Early Co., GA. He was a son of Littleberry Walker Carter and Mary Ann Diligent Seals. He was married September 8, 1885 to Nina Pratt.

My name is Darel Rayburn, and I am researching the Rayburn/Raburn family history. Do you happen to know of any Rayburn family members still living in the Terrell County area? You can contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org Thank you.

I am curious about the marker for this relative. Do you happen to have a pic of the front of the marker?
I am trying to link him with family members. Thank you for the site as it made it possible for us to find him.

Hi - I have a question about a memorial for my cousin's second wife that you kindly transferred to me back in February 2013, Memorial #66403793 for Florrie Gertrude B. "Flo" ANTHONY. I am wondering if you remember what the source for the middle name Gertrude was? I can't seem to find it in any record of her (but I also haven't been able to find her on any censuses thus far). I realize it has been a while since you created this memorial, so if you don't remember, it's okay. A question has come up about whether the initial "B." stands for her maiden name (which is presently unknown) or for a given name - and if she is Florrie Gertrude "Flo" then she would have 3 given names with the "B." name, which would be out of the ordinary. I came across a record in my files that she was Florrie B. SAYE, but I don't know if SAYE was her maiden name or if she had been married before she wed my cousin. I don't suppose you know of anyone in your area who would be willing to look up her newspaper death/funeral notice for me? I would be glad to do look-ups in the Columbus newspapers/records in return. Thanks! - John
|Jerry N Bennett||Elusive Grave of Lewis Griffin Roper|
If you ever find anything on the subject I would be forever grateful to know it.
The subject, Lewis Griffin Roper is my GG Grandfather. He died 27 May 1847 from a fractured skull. He was struck by a slave with a hoe. His plantation was north west from Shellman, GA. On land lots 153 and 154.
I don't know if he was buried in a cemetery or on his plantation.
I thought you might be looking around in that area of Randolph County.

I see 2 Benevolence Baptist Church cemeteries listed in Randolph county, both of which you have photographed. I found one on Wards Mill Rd, but I don't find the 2nd. The notes on it say Cuthbert-Trotman Road, but I don't find any such road on any map, can you tell me where that is?
