When taking photo for Charles Short noticed his wife is there also. I did not see a memorial page for her so I made one and posted the picture on hers also. I transferred it to you. linda

RE: William Quayle (1857) at Mt Hope...
Karen,

Well...This does appear to be your person given that the recorded tombstone incription apparently reads something like (http://mcnygenealogy.com/cem/mthope-other.htm): "William, son of John & Catherine Quayle; a native of Isle of Man; died Feb 6, 1857 aged 31".

Unfortunately, though, there seems to be no way to find where this tombstone is given that it was only found in older DAR survey done in the late 1920s or early 1830s and not in the more modern survey done over the last ~30 years.

I have tried to look for other family, but that seems to be the only Quayle listed in the entire survey and it looks like the only Quayle's in the burial records from the 1800s are in that plot that I talked about with no surviving gravestones for Quayle.

RE: Lentz
Your very welcome. We may be kin, but I haven't traced it down yet. My grandparents were Ruth Walker and Harry Ridenhour. We're kin to Stoner, Davis, Peeler.
I knew Deacon very well. When we were kids walking home from school, he would give us dimes to spend at one of the stores. He was a kindly old gentleman, tall and lanky. He was a friend to my grandparents. My mother was Betty Lou Ridenhour Grear. Does any of this ring any bells? I remember a Margaret Lentz friends with my aunt Maxine R. Douglas and a cafe in Cape Girardeau, Mo.All these are bits and pieces from childhood and I am 67. Lol. I put the flag and rose on Mr. Lentz 's grave in honor of his service. He gave it all.

William Quayle (1857) at Mt Hope...
Karen,

I've been researching this photo request and it turns out to be a complicated situation. The memorial was created from this webpage in a survey of Mt Hope: http://mcnygenealogy.com/cem/mthope-other.htm As you can read, this is a tombstone that was found in earlier survey records but the location is unknown and it was not found in the modern survey.

Now, there is a father and very young son Wm Quayle Sr and Jr who also died around that time according to the Mt Hope Interment Records (http://www.lib.rochester.edu/IN/RBSCP/Databases/IMAGES/MtHope/disc1/00000275.pdf), 1852 for the Jr and 1853 for the Sr. And, the Sr. died at a similar age (31) as the Quayle (1857) but the death year is about 4 years earlier and the month & day don't seem to correspond (i.e., it is not a simple transcription error). Furthermore, neither of these have surviving gravestones anyway. [You can see the plot map for the Lot 119 in Section O here http://crpc.nyrgs.org/ and it is also puzzling since there seems to be some confusion about whether it is owned by someone named "Sayles" or "Quayle" and there are two surviving gravestones on the lot, with the legible one being for Philip Sayles (1896).]

Who is it exactly who you are looking for?

Karen, Thank you for taking and posting Helen Dorothy Snapp's memorial photo. I see that you are tracing the Snapp family also. My direct line was around Pottowatomie, KS. This is my mother's side.

You are welcome! I noticed you were researching McManus' in Michigan. My gg grandmother was Mary Augusta McManus who married Robert Herkimer in Monroe County Michigan. Is this part of your family tree? If so I would love to hear from you and compare notes.

Best regards,
Debbie K
