The very first thing I want to say is THANK YOU to all of you who send me edits for the memorials I manage. I check Find A Grave almost every day and absolutely love it when edits come my way. I use the edit feature often, and it always lifts my spirits when I see them go through. It reinforces that this site is a community effort and we are all working together to make it as complete and accurate as possible. |
I have been interested in genealogy for 30 years and have written over a dozen family history books, the first one in 1979. The majority of our family vacations in the 1980s & 1990s revolved around cemeteries and visiting relatives. (Our kids ask why there are so many photos of them posing on headstones!)
When I joined FindAGrave, I kept busy adding our own family members. I knew where most were buried but some had to be searched for. In 2013, my husband and I took a trip through Montana, North Dakota and Minnesota and, in the process, found lots of folks to whom we were not related. I've created memorials for them adding as much additional information as I could find. We were able to fill dozens of photo requests; it felt good being able to pay forward all of the requests that volunteers have filled for us.
I endeavor to make memorials as complete as possible, including headstone photos, bios and links. (I have received permission for obits unless the newspapers are out of print or the copyrights have expired.)
Most of my memorials are family members, but I'll happily consider transfers if you are more closely related.
You are welcome to use any of the photos I have posted but I would enjoy hearing from you if you do use any.
FindAGrave has added so much to my life. I love being a part of it!

I will have to go back and take another one of the headstone. I didn't notice when I took it that I had my video on. So instead of a still pic got a video. And couldn't figure out how to get a still from it so just photographed the computer image of the video to post for now until I can get back over there. That's why it looks weird.

There very well may have been records at one time, but over the years, there have been many caretakers of the cemetery, with records kept on crude drawings and ledger books. I believe many may have been lost over the years. The current general manager has worked tirelessly to scan in all available documents and names and burial locations into a database. It has taken him several years to accomplish, and I must say, with over 15,500 graves in that cemetery, I am in awe of the work he has done.

You are so welcome...and again, I'm sorry I wasn't able to provide those photos.

Wow, you are fast! Thanks for updating her memorial!
Thank you for your kind words ~ means a lot.
I've transferred Louise's husband, Douglas to your care as well.
I noticed some others that you had at Bardo, etc. So I transferred those to you as well.
If there are any others that I've created and you would like to manage please let me know. If I've transferred some to you that you didn't want - please feel free to transfer back to me.
Thank you for doing all that you are doing too!

Nancy, yes, I would appreciate having his memorial to manage. Thank you for offering. I'll send my number through the edit link on his memorial; it seems to be easier that way.
You are the first person I have seen leave a picture designating that there is no marker, but I think it's a brilliant idea. I'm sure there is a lot of redundant searching going on, looking for non-existent gravestones. Your photo certainly would end that problem.

Thanks for the appreciation! I oddly enjoy cemeteries and capturing photos for requests...lol
I also added photos on findagrave for other Bailey's of the same Bailey family stone: Charles, Arthur, Wesley, & Eunice.

I just want to thank you for posting this about my Dad. He was born and raised in Ashland, Wisconsin and I think that he was the man he grew up to be because of the people there. He was a great man who touched many lives through his faith and strong values that he learned there.
I have added the notice. - Thanks for the information.
