RE: Fort Donelson National Cemetery
In The NARA file for Samuel Carroll there is a death certificate signed by William S. Cuthbert, Assistant Surgeon of the 83rd Illinois Infantry that states that Samuel died at the Post Hospital, Fort Donelson,, Tennessee on April 21, 1984 of pneumonia. Thanks again for your contributions.

RE: E Dunham #72983843 Fort Donelson National Cemetery
I did not address the issue of Amos Dunham v. E Dunham. I took the name off of the NPS Ft. Donelson website where there is a list the internees, although my ancestor Samuel Carroll is not listed. I just checked it and E. Dunham is still listed. Have you accessed this resource? I am still willing to transfer him and the others that I copied from this website.

Debi and Scott,

My ancestor Samuel Carroll died at Ft. Donelson of pneumonia in April of 1864. I have his photo and his file from NARA. I visited the Fort Donelson website hoping to find his grave listed. I am sure that he was buried in the hospital graveyard and there is no record of his burial in his hometown. Since his wife predeceased him, his children were distributed to their grandmother and neighbors so I am sure there was no money or interest to ship his body and rebury him. I saw all of the burials listed and since no one had listed them on findagrave, I set about doing it. It is not complete but I have received several messages from descendants and have transferred or updated the memorial. I would be glad to transfer these memorials to you for you to manage, if you wish. In any case thank you for your contributions.

RE: Via Cemetery, Hickman County, KY
Starting from Fulgham, which is at the intersection of Hgwy. 307 and 58, travel east on Hgwy. 58 for approx. 2 miles and then turn north (left) on Hgwy. 3061. You will find Via road on your left about 3/4 mile north of 58. I am pretty sure there is a green Via Road sign there. Via Cemetery is at the end of Via Road less than a 1/2 mile off 3061. This is a fairly good gravel road and you should be able to drive all the way. While there, be sure to notice a couple very large Chestnut trees about the center of the cemetery.
