I am doing this as a labor of love to fulfill a promise I made my Dad.
ANY info or pictures I,myself,have added to this site or on my family trees is free to anyone who would like to use it.
The purpose of genealogical research is to create a living memorial for our ancestors.
To do this-we have to share.

The following individuals are my direct line paternal grandparents. Please transfer Find A Grave Memorial# 58427420 (Reuben W Hastings) and Find A Grave Memorial# 58427540 (Frances Mary "Fannie" Wickham Hastings) so I can update their bios and link them to spouses & children.
Thank you - JIM
|Courtney Carpenter||RE: Louisa Shellman|
My pleasure! I'm glad I was able to find Louisa. Sorry to see that her headstone was broken off, but at least it was legible enough to make out her name.
I'm researching the Updike homestead in Leoni Twp, Jackson County, MI. Does anyone have info as to when/why the Updikes bought the homestead and when/why they sold it? Thanks.
Mary Updike married to John Hoy and I see that you also put flowers on the Hoy family. Was wondering if you had any other information or pictures of the Hoy family.
|Jim Downing Brady||My pending edit for Warren Wade|
Hi, Laurie...Although I am not entirely sure how edit processing on find-a-grave logistically works, in the event that you as the creator of Warren Wade's entry have control over it, be advised that I have for several weeks had an edit request pending, to connect his entry up with his parents (which would also act to connect him up with all of his siblings, except for George...)...Regards

Hi again, Laurie...Before I move on with the hundreds of other persons I am actively researching (many of whom apparently have no one else remembering them), I wanted to bring to your attention Frank Higgins, Lena Wade's first Husband, per her newspaper obit. Having actively researched the clan, I am aware that Lena married Frank in Grand Rapids on 3 April 1867 (his name being spelled "Biggins" in the record), & again per Lena's obit., he died five years later...what you may not be aware of is that within the 1890 New York Census (where Lena clearly was located at the time with her second husband Robert Woodhull), Lena was identified as a Civil War Veteran's Widow, the applicable 1890 Census record perhaps again mangling Frank's last name as "Kinings"...Please note that I & many other genealogists feel very strongly that all Veterans of all Wars be afforded the appropriate respect & memory...With the foregoing said, not only did Frank marry a Wade, but he also had a daughter with Lena, i.e., Mary, & EVEN THOUGH MANY RECORDS REFER TO HER AS MARY WOODHULL (keeping in mind there may have been a formal adoption of her by Robert Woodhull), the plain fact remains that Mary was born in 1870, THREE YEARS BEFORE LENA MARRIED ROBERT WOODHULL IN 1873...Although there is very little background info provided by the following find-a-grave entry, nevertheless there is a Frank Higgins, acknowledged to be a Civil War Veteran, buried in Douglas, #98439944 (unfortunately, this entry doesn't even provide a yr. of death) Although the following task does involve some effort, if you or someone else in your family were so inclined (& assuming you don't already have his newspaper obit. &/or have some other reason for ignoring/avoiding his mention which I would not otherwise know about...), seeking out Frank's Civil War pension & separate military service files would likely be a dispositive way to hook Frank up with Lena...Kindly be further aware that most U.S. Congresspersons & U.S. Senators are usually happy to assist their constituents, via a no big deal congressional inquiry (usually instituted with a simple phone call) in order to secure National Archives records...a small fee is then involved for copying/handling...Hope this info is helpful to you, & if there is some family reason causing you to not want to do this, please advise, because there are genealogists out there who concentrate on our Veterans...if I can be of any further assist, simply drop me a line...Regards
|Jim Downing Brady||Mary Updike Wade's sole remaining child George as yet unconnected to the rest of his family|
Hi again, Laurie...per subject heading, the only Mary Updike Wade remaining son unaccounted for on find-a-grave is George, who died in Detroit, Michigan in 1925...his widow Susie E. Howe Wade is also giving me trouble finding her burial, she having died in Detroit in 1931 (all of this info is available to you on familysearch.org)...if you're interested (you being the only living descendant I have thus far come across, assuming Kyle Johnson is not related, & further noting that he blew off my prior attempt to communicate with him), it is certainly possible that no one has as of yet created an entry for George & Susie, which in turn means, IF YOU ARE UP TO THE TASK, reaching out to volunteer photographers working in the Detroit-Wayne County area & requesting their assistance...Chris Yoder also may be able to help you out with potential obit. info., Chris having been substantially involved in documenting other Wade entries...REGARDS & GOOD LUCK
|Jim Downing Brady||Re: Updike-Wade|
Hi, Laurie...Just wanted to give you a heads up that research has been done on your family on the familysearch.org website, in the event you were not aware...upon my observing that someone named Kyle Johnson had started to research Mary Updike-Wade's kids, but had stopped with Fred Wade, I stepped in & finished entering the rest of George's/Mary's kids...in fact, I am about to at least try & straighten out the confusion that apparently exists on find-a-grave regarding their son Willard, who unfortunately was also referred to as William in Census records (if I am correctly guessing, Tom Fury, the one who created "Willard's" find-a-grave entry, went solely off of I am also guessing Cemetery records that likely recited his name as William, even though the headstone clearly refers to him as Willard, resulting in Willard's find-a-grave entry being entitled "William D. Wade" instead of Willard D. Wade...in the event that you are also interested in the Wades (or at least Mary Updike-Wade's kids), another volunteer find-a-grave photographer named Audrey has literally just within the last several days (just apparently after it had snowed in Michigan!!!) taken another pic of George's/Mary's/Willard's/Winnie's(I AM UNSURE WHO WINNIE WAS...) headstone, & SURE ENOUGH, HER NEWEST PIC IS MUCH CLEARER THAN EARLIER ONES...in case you are curious, my paternal Grandmother's sister Florence Daly married Fred Wade, & upon Florence's death, my Grandmother Irene Daly Brady continued to operate "the Guest House" in Saugatuck for a good many years...Regards from a fellow genealogist who truly believes that the further back in time we all go, WE ARE EVENTUALLY ALL RELATED TO ONE ANOTHER...
