DEAR ANCESTOR
Your tombstone stands among the rest;
Neglected and alone.
The name and date are chiseled out
On polished, marbled stone.
It reaches out to all who care
It is too late to mourn.
You did not know that I exist
You died and I was born.
Yet each of us are cells of you
In flesh, in blood, in bone.
Our blood contracts and beats a pulse
Entirely not our own.
Dear Ancestor, the place you filled
One hundred years ago
Spreads out among the ones you left
Who would have loved you so.
I wonder if you lived and loved,
I wonder if you knew
That someday I would find this spot,
And come to visit you.

MINER PORTER ~ 27894311
Noticed your wonderful memorial for Miner Porter at Glenwood Cemetery!
I'm trying to find Miner's first wife, Louisa Spaulding, who you say died December 29, 1853.
Do you have any information on her?

Hope to hear from you, Susan

Ugh! Another transposing of numbers, I have given myself 40 wet noodles and it has been fixed.

I originally requested a snapshot when I created the memorial page and a volunteer reported that the grave is unmarked.

Do you have any information on him, that you would like to share on the page? During our 1997 two days visit, we discovered that Peter was not the firstborn of Frederick and Apollonia Feickert. The hunt continued afterward.

Thanks for catching the date mistake, and have a great summer.

Fayette Spear
Hi Sandy,
I went to the La Belle Cemetery in Oconomowoc, WI today and this is what I found. Per cemetery office, there is no Fayette Spear in the La Belle Cemetery, Oconomowoc, WI. The following "Spears" are listed in the book:
Mary E. Spear(d 1927, age 82)
(b) Milo (d 1869, age 7wks)
(c) Susan (d. 1869, age 7 wks)
(d)Lucy (d 1899, age 70)
I went to Plot 9, in Lot E, and found the following cast metal markers (NO DATES on any): (1) Large Plot marker with "Cole" on one side and "McRae" on the other
(2) Mary E Spear
(3) John McRae
(4) Rachel M McRae
(5) Father
(6) Mother
(7) Susan Spear Cole
(8) Asa Milo Cole
(9) Alma Cole Pickering
(10) Charles Sumner Pickering
(11) Mary Cole Counsell
(12) Gilbert F. Counsell
There was no marker for a "Lucy."
I did take pictures of all, but they do not pertain to "Fayette Spear" unless she is the "Mother." Is it possible she is buried under a married name other than "Spear." Of note, these cast metal markers are the only metal markers in the entire cemetery.

Wait vs Waite
Hi Sandy,
The gravestone for Helen Wait (Find A Grave #146914004) and, by extension for her husband John Wait (Find A Grave # 146905243) show the last name as Wait and not Waite. Please see the pix I have uploaded.
Thx,
Bill

GORDON AND MAVIS SCHELING
I WILL BE GETTING THESE PHOTOS NEXT WEEK. YOU COULD HELP ME BY CALLING THE CEMETERY, GETTING THE PLOT INFORMATION AND POSTING IT ON THE REQUEST. SAVES ME A STEP.
