My mother has been researching our family history for many years now. |
I started taking pictures of headstones a few years ago for the family tree.
When I found findagrave, I couldn't believe who I was able to find.
I finally found my paternal grandfather, I never got to meet him, he died when I was four, I have no pictures of him, but I was able to get a picture of his headstone. I feel like I made a big discovery and it felt great!
So, I had decided that if I felt like this, that I know I could help other people find their family too, it makes me smile that taking a picture of a family member for someone else can make their day brighter.
If you are related to a person that I have created a memorial for (you are closer in relations than I or I am not related), I am more then happy to transfer them to you. It does not matter how you are related, just request a transfer.
THERE ARE TOO MANY PEOPLE ON HERE THAT ARE RUDE ABOUT TRANSFERRING PEOPLE THAT THEY ARE NOT RELATED TOO!!!!
It does not make sense of why people have to be like that. I am on here for my family and to help others find theirs.
This is an email I received (6-15-2012) after requesting headstone pictures of my family members:
"Highland Park was completely photographed last year. Photo's are on Migenweb.com.
You need to get permission to copy these from Wayne Summers. firstname.lastname@example.org. There are 9 Cheney's there but Ralph Jr. isn't."
I'm sorry but it's RUDE for a volunteer to make you ASK FOR PERMISSION to use a family headstone picture for family use! I DO NOT EVER make anyone ask my permission if they could use a headstone picture.
From Find A Grave:
What is a photo volunteer?
A photo volunteer is someone who is willing to take photos of headstones within a given zip code.
To become a photo volunteer, log in and go to your Contributor Profile page by clicking on your public name in the left hand column of the page. This will bring up your Find A Grave Contributor Profile page. Click on the 'Edit My Profile' link in the upper right corner. From here, you can enter your default United States zip code or edit your Location and add the GPS coordinates for your home, business, or favorite location. Under Preferences, select to be a photo volunteer and if you would like to be emailed new requests in your area. FIND A GRAVE DOES NOT ALLOW PHOTO VOLUNTEERS TO CHARGE MONEY FOR THEIR SERVICES. AS A PHOTO VOLUNTEER, PLEASE DO NOT REFER INDIVIDUALS TO OTHER WEB SITES FOR PHOTOGRAPHS OF THEIR LOVED ONE'S GRAVE.
Definition of VOLUNTEER :
a person who voluntarily undertakes or expresses a willingness to undertake a service: as
a : one who enters into military service voluntarily
b (1) : one who renders a service or takes part in a transaction while having no legal concern or interest
(2) : one who receives a conveyance or transfer of property without giving valuable consideration

I am hoping you are a relative. I believe Hazel taught school at Cramton School District #9 in Ransom Township, Hillsdale County,MI. Do you have any info on this? I would appreciate any help you can give me.

Hi Rebecca -- Thanks for doing the update : ) And adding the memorial : ) No need for a transfer, but thanks for asking. I'm not related to him -- just trying to help out a little in case his family was looking for him :)

I see that you maintain the Find-A-Grave memorial for Gertrude F Fowler, 1914-1997, in Frontier Cemetery, Frontier MI. Would you know her parents names? I have a Gertrude F. MILLS, b abt 1915, MI, daughter of Burton A. and Olive M. "Ollie" (Hagaman) Mills in my database. Burton and Ollie are also buried in Frontier Cemetery and are listed on Find-A-Grave. It would be wonderful if we find they are connected. Thanks for your time. -Sally

I made your suggested changes except I do believe she was born in 1858; I believe her death record is has it wrong by a year. Thanks for pointing out my errors. I had found the death record but hadn't updated the memorial.
