**THE RECORDING OF A CEMETERY
BY THELMA GREENE REAGAN (via Alice Huitt Preston)
Today we walked where others walked
On a lonely, windswept hill;
Today we talked where others cried
For loved ones whose lives are stilled.
Today our hearts were touched
By graves of tiny babies;
Snatched from the arms of loving kin,
In the heartbreak of the ages.
Today we saw where the grandparents lay
In the last sleep of their time;
Lying under the trees and clouds -
Their beds kissed by the sun and wind.
Today we wondered about an unmarked spot;
Who lies beneath this hollowed ground?
Was it a babe, child, young or old?
No indication could be found.
Today we saw where Mom and Dad lay.
We had been here once before
On a day we'd all like to forget,
But will remember forever more.
Today we recorded for kith and kin
The graves of ancestors past;
To be preserved for generations hence,
A record we hope will last.
Cherish it, my friend; preserve it, my friend,
For stones sometimes crumble to dust
And generations of folks yet to come
Will be grateful for your trust.

|Laura||RE: Photo of 1910 Old Soldiers Reunion|
Thanks for your reply. The photo I was referring to was on the memorial of Sgt Oscar Benson Find a grave memorial #14876206 but I would be very interested in seeing the others too. I have created a virtual cemetery for the men of the 16th Georgia Volunteers and have so far located and linked nearly 450 memorials of men who served in the 16th GA. Any idea if any of the men in the pictures served in the 16th?

Are you related to this family? I am descended from William White by his 2nd wife Julia Puckett. We have been looking for Charles' parents, Thomas and Anna White Anderson for years, found them thanks to Find a Grave! If you know about this family, would love to compare notes and photos!

I had posted those McCollum Find A Grave entries for someone else, they are not my relatives. I know nothing more than what is posted. However, I know there were many McCollums listed in the 1800's census records of Perry County, Illinois and David seems to be one of the more common names used in those families, also know they were from N Carolina, so a possibility they were from the same family as David. Have you tried the Perry Co, IL websites?

I saw a photo you posted for James Starling Kemp. Do you have any info you can share about the Kemps who lived west of Kennesaw Mt? If so, I will send an email.

Thanks so much. Enjoyed the photos. Did you if that Jane Armstrong photo at the Georgia Archives is available online? Thanks again.
|S. Freeman||Jane Armstrong McMichen|
Hey, I am a descendant of Jane Armstrong McMichen. I saw that you had added a photo of her to the site. It looks like a family photo. I was curious if you had any idea where the photo came from, or time it was taken. Also, are you connected to her family? Thanks.

Many thanks for getting the headstone for William onto Find A Grave. It is a great picture.
I wonder if you'd allow me to use the pic in the family research, with credit, of course?
