My interest in genealogy began 65 years ago when I followed my mother's and grandmother's conversations as they traced relationships of their friends and family. |
As a Find A Grave photo volunteer for Lone Fir Pioneer Cemetery, I sometimes stumble - literally - over a neglected or forgotten grave marker. I add information or create memorials for the lives I discover in this way.
I've lived in Portland since 1985. Do not presume to lecture me on the city of today or yesterday, the history or current status of Lone Fir Pioneer Cemetery.
If you have rules and procedures and requirements for memorials and photos, don't expect me to follow them. Find A Grave guidelines are good enough for me. As far as cleaning headstones? Don't be silly. I clean off the bird ****, wipe the dust, pull the weeds, rinse the mud. What good is a photo where the name can't be seen or the dates visible?

Thank you so much for posting his obituary. This is one of my husband's collateral families.

Next time I am over at Lone Fir I will see if I can find a marker for him there. If so then the two memorials can be merged to show him current resting place. Lone Fir is across the street from where St. Mary's was. It is now a catholic H.S.

I have tried getting some at Lone Fir in the past and I know how difficult it can be, even when there is a stone.

Hello. i tried to send in an edit to the memorial, but it rejected, "General reason: Content submitted does not belong in this data field." So, I'll try again this way.
At this page is a transcription of the poem found on the gravestone:
The seventh word of the transcription is wrong. It is not "flown", it is "gone."

Thank you for photographing the area where she was interred. As I suspected, the grave is unmarked.

Thanks Linda. Your two entries were so timely. One of my cousins had gone to Lone Fir and had been unable to find any record for Mae Elizabeth and Winning V even tho we had news clippings about their burials. I tried to enter the memorial numbers to do the links myself but got a message they had expired or something like that. That's why I messaged you. Thanks again. Now I have to create an entry for William Nathan's second wife who is my actual grandmother. FindaGrave sure is helpful when tracking down ancestors! Bob
