Hello, and welcome to my profile!|
The regimental history I have written on the 38th Indiana Infantry regiment has officially been published! Feel free to visit my author webpage for more information:
During the many hours spent researching 38th Indiana soldiers, I have developed what some might call an obsession in trying to locate the graves of ALL the members of this regiment (1,715 total...I think). I realize I'll probably come up a little short when all is said and done due to the unknown disposition of battle casualties, unmarked graves and etc., but so far, I've positively identified 1,315 (76.7 percent) of them. I have received a TON of help from numerous Find-A-Grave photo volunteers on this project and I just wanted to take the time and thank ALL of you...you all have helped tremendously with this "quest" and I truly appreciate you all taking the time out of your schedules to hunt down and photograph gravestones for this project. Only 400 left to go! All of you who send updates and corrections to me for the memorials...thanks so much, and keep 'em coming! If there is anything I can try to do for you in my area, please let me know and I'll do my best to see that it is done!

I was wondering if you can get a picture of the back of Marion & Hannah's stone, which has the names of their children who proceeded them in death. Also these children could be added to the Find A Grave website. Thank you!!

Traie, Just added Elias & Elizabeth Johnson's daughter, Rachel Johnson Knight to your memorial.
She's buried in Croys Creek Cemetery, Putnam County, Indiana. After I established her memorial, and added a photo of her headstone, I was contacted by Lloyd W. Knight, and provided background of her death. May be of interest to you. Continue your path of searching history.

Buried Walnut Ridge Cemetery per Clark Co., IN death records Book CH-6, page 46
age 98 years
died: 30 Aug 1930, Jeffersonville, IN
His military request for a tombstone gives the date of death as 29 Aug 1931, which is in error. On the request there are two spelling of his name Schaffer/Shaffer and they with with Shaffer
Hope this is helpful.

Eastern Cemetery.....you have a photo request, but it looks like you have already taken some pics. I have added some new CW grave markers and am still researching about 5 I can't quite read...too worn.

My GG Grandfather, Fielding Steele, served in the 38th Regiment from Indiana. While searching though the records I found a link to your site. His Find-a-grave Memorial is 86614531. I have a tintype I believe to be him...in his Union outfit. Not positive it is him, but pretty sure. He enlisted 18 Sept 1861 and exited 13 July 1865. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
|John Wesley Taylor||RE: William H. Harris|
I don't have any info on Civil War service for William H. Harris. His sister Eliza (my great grandmother) was living in Buffaloville in 1863 when she married my great grandfather David Allen. David Allen served in the 25th Indiana Infantry.

Thank you so much for the transcription! This is a case of being in a hurry and the mistakes that can happen. I appreciate you bringing it to my attention and have made the change.
