Bio and Links
Bio Photo I live in the Carytown section of Richmond, Virginia, USA, one time capital of the Confederate States of America. I grave the area of New Jersey to Georgia, looking for family burial sites.

And often while walking those cemeteries I'll see some neglected or damaged or sinking markers, so I tidy them up, take a picture and post it, feeling like I might be their last best chance to be remembered for some future researcher. We all have the same goal, we're working for posterity, and I think this data base has become a number-one stop for all levels of family history researchers.

I'm a U.S. Navy veteran, Vietnam era, duty aboard the USS Canopus AS-34. I raised a family, but lost my wife. I made a career in newspaper production, am now retired, and enjoy volunteer gravestone photography.

The best way I've found to get a readable gravestone photo is to redirect sunlight to create shadows in the carved surface.

Anyone who wants to use my photos may do so, without any restriction, so help yourself. They have been posted here for you to use. And if you want a transfer, simply ask for it.

Warren Curry Oakwood Correction
Rich,

Thank you for finding my mistake for my GG Grandfather. I made the correction and I
do appreciate you for helping me.
What you are doing on Find A Grave is great
and we appreciate your knowledge. I am
from Richmond but live in Texas, I ordered the stone and had a memorial service for him last
year. This means a lot to me, and I do want it correct.

Thank you again,

Carol Armstrong

RE: Richmond National Cemetery ~
Rich,

No offense taken. Yes, we intend to post an individual memorial for each person - veteran, non-veteran, known and unknown - at Richmond National Cemetery. A friend and I photo document cemeteries. You can’t photo document a cemetery if you only do selected tombstones. As a combat veteran myself I personally feel that each veteran deserves the small act of gratitude of establishing a memorial for them – especially those who are now “known but to God.” We are dedicating our time and resources to ensure this happens. We are not asking anyone else to help – unless they want to. We view it as an act of respect for those who gave everything for a cause they believed in.

Rich, Thank you for posting the photo of the Unknown U S Soldier in Richmond National Cemetery. I have included it and your thoughtful caption on my Ancestry Tree. I'm a retired Marine as well as a Viet Nam era participant. BZ...John

Samuel Thomas Jones
You made my month!! What a fine memorial for the son of one of the most ignoble "gentlemen" of the rabid element of Missouri during the Civil War. Surely Jeff Jones was proudest of his total destruction of the Northern Missouri RR from Mexico MO to St. Louis in December , '61 as Sterling Price was running for his life. Jones & dozens of farmers tore up rails, destroyed RR stations & water towers, burned bridges & trains. The farmers went to Alton prison. Jones was free to cause far more trouble in Callaway county, a haven for famous guerillas. Sam was raised on an enormous, strategically located farm & knew Bloody Bill, Quantrill, the Youngers etc. I am linking other Jones children. In a few days I hope to have South West Jones & North East Jones linked - Sam's brothers.

I did my best to get the weeds and such off of his grave to photograph it. I apologize for not doing a better job.

I LIKE ... very much! Thank YOU. I've deleted mine and asked Scott to take the reference to the NC Todd (dwarf) off the website.
Best regards, Dennis

I went to Forest Lawn today to visit this grave and see if her husband was buried with her but the cemetery could not find a record of it. Do you have any sort of location to help me out.
