As a genealogy researcher for more than thirty years my passion has taken me on quite a family history journey. The most distressing thing during this journey has been how many gravemarkers have been destroyed by time and the elements and by vandalism, but especially those graves that were never marked.|
If I possessed all the money needed, I would see to it that each and every unmarked grave was given the rememberance that person deserves. So, I am happy to contribute to Find-A-Grave. I encourage others to do so as well.
My roots are in the Heart of Dixie. I have a keen interest in knowing about the soldiers of the 16th Regiment of Alabama Infantry, CSA, the 1st AL & TN Independent Vidette Cavalry, USA. I encourage anyone who has an ancestor in either of these regiments to please submit information about them to me for inclusion in my research.

I corrected his dates the best I could and connected him to his parents and wife. Thanks for keeping me on my toes. :)

Find A Grave Memorial# 11220929 This is the Memorial for Sarah Duncan, wife of William Duncan, Find A Grave Memorial# 84166245, buried in Bailey Springs Historic Cemetery.
Will you please connect them?
Also Find A Grave Memorial# 11208059 is his son, Andrew Jackson Duncan. He had 11 children in all.
Unfortunately the person who posted both of these memorials disabled her messages and I cannot request that they be linked from her end.
William's father is James Duncan, Find A Grave Memorial# 19155049.
Thanks for any connections you can make.

The DAR chapter in Texas that originally requested help with the Casey cem. is named after Levi Casey. I don't know the family but the cem is very close to where I live and grew up but I had never heard of it and didn't even know it was there until a couple of months ago. I am happy to help restore and save this piece of history.

Thought you would want to know a lady from the Daughters of American Revolution in Texas has contacted our local DAR chapter requesting work and and a REV WAR Marker for Levi Casey's wife buried in this cemetery. Our DAR referred it to the cemetery committee who met today and a decision was made that the Casey cemetery is first priority due to condition of graves. A field day has been scheduled for Nov 1 and I will be there. Will try to locate and photograph your request at that time. Once the cemetery is restored I expect DAR will place a marker and possibly have a dedication ceremony. Anyone wanting more details please email me firstname.lastname@example.org
In case you don't know the cemetery has been neglected it is in a remote location and access limited. A while back the cemetery was vandalized and assumed robbed due to large holes left where graves should be. Most of the headstones are broken and illegible. This cemetery was in danger of being lost. We hope to bring it back

My name is Ellen Drake....I live in Vinemont Ala. which is about 30 minutes from Mooresville Ala....Many years ago I rented the "Peebles home for about a year...Mooresville is fairly close to Huntsville....The home is a lovely large stone home with walls "4 feet " thick..It had the original tiffany lamps for lighting.Their property included the area that interstate 65 going to Nashville Tenn crosses 565 going into Huntsville and has been rerouted around Mooresville.whereas previously the road went through Mooresville..I knew the 2nd MrsPeebles quite well....she was a lovely lady..and lived in a nice home that was built next door to the orginal Peebles' home..Mr Peebles had a son who was going to Auburn University, became ill and died in the infirmary there so Mrs.Peebles told me. She also said that after his son died he just "gave up" and died of a broken heart....Doctors couldn't find any other reason for his dying... I have an old newspaper with the history of Mooresville in it..Mr.Peebles.is mentioned in the newspaper......I also have a map of several cemeteries located in or near to Mooresville..Mrs Peebles said that when Mooresville was invaded by the Northern soldiers, the residents hid their silver in their rain barrels.I was very interested in genealogy at the time I lived there and checked out several of the old cemeteries Most of them had slabs of concrete that had 4 standing sides on them....very interesting. It has been 30 years since I lived there but visited it often a few years ago since I was a home health nurse and had patients there...I had tried to but a home there but at that time the residence ONLY sold homes or properties to original homeowners' relatives... Hi. I wanted to let you know that this cemetery was vandalized this past weekend. Many of the graves were DUG UP and tombstones overturned. If your ancestor is there, you should contact the American Legion in Burke County as they are the group who take care of this cemetery. Please pass this on if you know anyone else who might be affected. I'm so sorry this has happened and so very angered by the thieves actions!

I live just down the road from Shady Grove Methodist church and cemetery. I am certain that there is only one cemetery there even though there are 2 listed here on find a grave. One is Shady grove Methodist and the other is simply, Shady grove cemetery. I believe this Henry is listed at both sites. Jane
