THE RECORDING OF A CEMETERY|
BY THELMA GREENE REAGAN
Today we walked where others walked
On a lonely, windswept hill;
Today we talked where other cried
For Loved Ones whose lives are stilled.
Today our hearts were touched
By graves of tiny babies;
Snatched from the arms of loving kin,
In the heartbreak of the ages.
Today we saw where the grandparents lay
In the last sleep of their time;
Lying under the trees and clouds -
Their beds kissed by the sun and wind.
Today we wondered about an unmarked spot;
Who lies beneath this hollowed ground?
Was it a babe, child, young or old?
No indication could be found.
Today we saw where Mom and Dad lay.
We had been here once before
On a day we'd all like to forget,
But will remember forever more.
Today we recorded for kith and kin
The graves of ancestors past;
To be preserved for generations hence,
A record we hope will last.
Cherish it, my friend; preserve it, my friend,
For stones sometimes crumble to dust
And generations of folks yet to come
Will be grateful for your trust.

Cynthia, I just added a photo to William Creel's memorial page. It is from the Korean War Museum Memorial in Seoul, Korea. It may not be the photo that you wanted, so may want to put another request out there. Pamela

I am sharing this message that was posted on the "I Grew Up in Valley, AL" Facebook group today 6/28/14. Please share with anyone you know who has family buried there.
If anybody has family buried out at Resthaven you may want to go check on their lots! We went out today and grass is almost knee high. We cut around my parents graves but the entire place is in shambles! There are graves that still have dead flowers piled on them from the funeral, lots of graves with no grass and lots of graves that have the vases missing off them! Anywhere there is grass it's almost knee high!! It's a sad sight!!!
— feeling annoyed.
|Hope ||Thank you.|
I just found this site and saw your note. Thank you so much for remembering Mamma. She loved you so much.

I have been searching the internet looking for information on my biogical father who is deceased. I think this may be my biological grandfather's memorial that I have found on this site. The # is 80287645. Is there any way I can have contact information for these individuals listed or is there anything you can suggest I do to get in contact with them. I would really like to find out information on my blood relatives and this is as close as I can get so far. Thanks for your time.

Do you perchance know where his parents are buried?
His brother, Thomas, is buried here in the Spotsylvania Confederate Cemetery. It'd be nice to link these 2 brothers with their parents.
Thanks for your time---!

am researching the Jacks family that lived in Ironaton,Talladega,Al. My gr grandmother was Eliza (or Liza) Jacks. She was born in 1866. Her father was John Jacks that migrated to Talladega, Alabama from Geo. Around that same time. On her death certificate it lists her mother as Chapman ( can't find any info on her) and in the 1900 Anniston, Calhoun census (where my mother and her siblings were born), she is listed as Elizar Jackson and there are two Parker H 1894 and Parker Lee 1897 (which is my grandfather Pronce Lee) plus Lizzie 1889 and James 1891 (can't find them) She also had a brother named Tom born in 1877. She supposedly married a John Jackson and was a widow by 1910. (can't find nothing on him either) My grandfather was her son Pronce Lee Jackson born in 1879. I am at a total dead end with this branch of my tree any ideas or help that you could give me would be highly appreciated. (This has been driving me nuts for years, and I am getting older and grayer by the minute lol)
Thank you for any help.
