Bio

My name is Joy and I am really happy to be a contributing member of findagrave.

I was born in Polk County which is located in East Texas. My parents lived in several areas of Texas while I was growing up, wherever my dad worked. After I graduated school and got married, my late husband and I settled along the Gulf Coast of Texas and raised our family, but we made many trips back to visit family in East Texas. We are the parents of three children, two daughters who are living, and we have five grandchildren. Three grown grandsons and a twin granddaughter and grandson in middle school. Our eldest child and only son, James Michael Sizemore, passed away in 1984 after being struck by lightning at age sixteen, so I am especially interested in the memorials on FindAGrave, that honor our loved ones.

I started doing genealogy research in mid 2000 for my family lines which include Duff, Jones, Hawthorne, Cain, Murphy and Coursey; my husband's family lines include Sizemore, Driver, Roach, Vickers and many others I have not been able to pinpoint. I have to say his family lines are much harder to research than mine are. I am trying to gather as much family information as I can so that it will be much easier for my family as well as my extended family to do research on our ancestry.

My goal is to take as many photographs as I can and post them to the findagrave.com website for cemeteries in several East Texas Counties where I have family buried. These counties include Polk, Tyler, Jasper, Newton, Liberty, Harris, San Jacinto, Hardin and Angelina. I firmly believe in remembering our loved ones that have passed on and feel I can help by posting the photos of their headstones, photos, etc.

NOTICE: "ALL HEADSTONE PHOTOS THAT I POST, OR HAVE POSTED, ON THE FINDAGRAVE WEBSITE HAVE BEEN TAKEN PERSONALLY BY ME OR HAVE BEEN COPIED BY PERMISSION FROM OTHER MEMBERS OF FINDAGRAVE."

"ALSO, PLEASE NOTE THAT THE HEADSTONE PHOTOS I POST, OR HAVE POSTED IN THE PAST, ARE THERE AS A MEMORIAL TO THAT PERSON AND ARE AVAILABLE TO BE COPIED BY FAMILY RESEARCHERS WHO ARE TRYING TO TRACK THEIR OWN FAMILY LINEAGE. I would like to be contacted on my personal family photos as I have been in the past by several people."

I appreciate any corrections or updates to information I have posted as well as I will be glad to transfer a posting to family members when notified.

Thank you to those who have emailed me with family info and requests to link husband, wives and children on posts that I have made in the past. I am really happy that FindAGrave has added this wonderful addition to our recording of memorials.

I ask everyones forgiveness for any delays on making updates or changes to requests. My late husband battled cancer for two and a half years before passing away in 2016 so I've been behind on working on my genealogy or Findagrave work as I once was.
