Bio and Links
Bio Photo Born 1946, Chandler OK; US Army, Vietnam, 1968-69; Ph.D. University of Kansas, 1976; current residence: Tokyo, Japan.

Author of two books of family history: "North of Deep Fork: An Oklahoma Farm Family in Hard Times," which deals with Lincoln County; and "The Fate of Bones: Adventures in Family History," which follows the Pound/Pounds family from Virginia in the mid-1600s to Oklahoma at the start of WWII. Available from Amazon.

Recently I have written about early-day killings in Lincoln Co. Oklahoma. I have a group of seven stories which will be published late this summer (2015).

I run a Lincoln County Oklahoma website at The Table of Contents for the new book is posted there. And I've just started a new website for McCorkle Cemetery in Lincoln Co. because the FAG contributor who controls most of the sites there suffers from terminal inertia: Right now, I am working on a book about the vanished village of Clematis, south of Davenport in Lincoln Co. It's not by chance that its rise and fall coincides with that of the Oklahoma Socialist Party.

Someone has established a duplicate memorial for this person in Gittings Mound Cemetery # 64093575, where I believe he may be actually buried. I thought you would want to check.

RE: Deming stone
I'm sorry, but I can't figure out why some of my photos rotate and some don't. I've tried redoing them--doesn't matter. It's come down to leaving them rotated, or simply deleting them. If I figure it out, I'll come back and fix it.
I'm from Duncan.

Melville's buried in Pittsfield Cemetery
The cemetery office confirmed that Henry (only) is buried at 18 Hope Mound. I will check the cemetery office to see if they have any other Melville's buried at Pittsfield Cemetery.

Julien Melville
Hello Wayne,
Thank you for the link to Julien's first wife. I connected the two of them and asked the owners of his childrens'memorials to link them up as well.
Best regards,

The next time I visit Pittsfield Cemetery, I will inquire about Melville's buried there and let you know.

Morewood's in Pittsfield Cemetery
Wayne, I called the local Herman Melville's Arrowhead Museum (413-442-1793) and they told me he is buried in the Bronx but didn't know which cemetery. You might be able to find him on Find A Grave. If you give them a call, they can explain the distant connection to Morewoods. He started explaining it to me, but I got confused.
The reference to 21 Terrace Grove: Terrace Grove is the section of Pittsfield Cemetery, and 21 is the lot number.

John Rowland Morewood
Think I solved one mystery. Per Family Search, 1900 US Census, Elizabeth City, Union, New Jersey, there were two John Rowland Morewood's. Looks like one is grandfather, born 1821 in England and the other a grandson, born 1880 in New Jersey. Do you want to post the memorials for all these people or I can:
Son, William Morewood (B1847 New York); William's wife, Maria Ganesvoort Morewood (B1849 New York; William and Maria's family: Daughter, Agnes Morewood (B1879 New Jersey); Son, John R. Morewood Jr. (B1880 New Jersey); Son, Thomas M. Morewood (B1882 New Jersey); Son, Alfred P. Morewood (B 1885 New Jersey); Daughter, Helen Ganesvoort Morewood (B1886 New Jersey); Daughter, Margaret T. Morewood (B1888 Mass); Son, Henry Ganesvoort Morewood (B1889 New Jersey); William's Father, John R. Morewood (B1821 England).

Morewood's in Pittsfield Cemetery
I photographed a lot of Morewood graves at 21 Terrace Grove in Pittsfield Cemetery.
You mentioned in Alfred Pierpont Morewood's memorial that you did not find evidence that he was married. Per Family Search, he was married to Sarah Langdon H. Hopkins on May 9, 1883 in Manhattan, NY. I have two Alfred Pierpont Morewood grave photos. I have a photo of Sarah's memorial.
Also, I have two John Rowland Morewood's (died 1903) and (1880-1916) - dates are different from your memorial. Could the second be his son?
Also, took photos of Anna Waller Morewood (1905-?), Helen Ganesvoort Morewood (1886-1970), Henry Ganesvoort Morewood (1894-1976), Margaret Thurston Morewood (1888-1963), Maria Ganesvoort Morewood (1849-1935) Thomas M. Morewood (1882-1950) and William Barlow Morewood (1847-1923).
