Bio Photo My name is Deana Goss Martin. My mom, Rita Collvins Mayfield, got me involved in searching for information about our family's past. I haven't been bitten as hard as she has by the genealogy bug but it is very exciting.

I never spent much time in, much less thinking about cemeteries until we lost our twenty-four year old son Levi. Now when I visit one I find it peaceful most of the time. The minister at our son's funeral told a story of a little girl who took a short cut through a cemetery to get home. When they ask her why she went that way she said, because it's the way home. I now look at cemeteries in a whole new light and find myself wanting to preserve someones memories.

As I get more involved and add names to help out, feel free to let me know if I have added your family member whom you would like to have turned over to you. I will be glad to honor your request.

Hi Deanna

My nephew came a few weeks ago. he is from Shorts name in Oklahoma. We went to a cemetery out on Texana Rd way out in boondocks. there are a lot of whisenhunts burried there. Some very old bricks just sticking in ground. Hard to say what names they are or dates. I also volunteer take pics.

Hi Deana, I may need to eventually add YOU to my family tree as you have been such a wonderful asset in creating so many memorials for my extended family members! Thank you so much for the transfer of Ernest Pickens to me for management. It has been exciting these past couple of weeks to connect with two more cousins from my Pickens family who are as addicted to genealogy as myself! With their help, I will be helping write his story and hopefully adding some heritage photos. Have a great day, Helen

Hi Deana,
Could you please connect Caroline (Chitwood) Williams, Find A Grave#49150387, buried in Old Smithville Cemetery in Smithville, McCurtain, Oklahoma, to her husband, Dr. James Sterling Barney Williams, Find A Grave# 49150489. I would really appreciate this. Thank you, Laura.

Edith and Joe Watson
Deana, this world of ours is getting smaller every day. I just discovered that you are related to Edith and Joe Watson, Edith was my son's childcare lady. We moved to Cache, Okla. in the fall of 1974, the week my son started kindergarten. He stayed with her from 1974-1980 or so. We'd drop him off before school (Edith and Joe lived only about 3 blocks from school). I just discovered, that they and their daughter are buried at Sunset Memorial cemetery, here in Lawton. TTYL !

A Co-worker of Levi's
Deana, Levi and I used to work together here in Lawton and my wife & I stopped by (a few yrs. ago) the cemetery where Levi and your daughter are buried. You and your husband have placed a real nice marker for him. I have recently became a Find A Grave contributor, took a look at Levi's memorial, to make sure he had one. I thought the Bio./write-up that you did for Levi was really nice. I am the co-worker for whom Levi had set a 15 minute warning (on his watch), so as to prod me into gathering up our tools near quitting time. LOL! I retired 3 1/2 years ago after 40 years with PSO. So long for now.

It is so sweet that your beloved baby girl and Levi are together for always, I did not read all the way through when the previous note was left. Helen

Appreciate you!
Hi Deanna, I just wanted to let you know how very much the transfer of John Pickens' memorial is to me! I am slowly but surely locating his siblings and an now link him with his parents. It is my hope to locate some of his grandchildren who also love working on the family history. Your bio is very inspiring with the story of the little girl in the cemetery, it should be everyone's mantra as we are all "helping each other home". May God Bless you always with wonderful memories of your son Levi. Warmly, Helen
