Bio Photo Taking photographs for is an interest I take seriously. I want to take the best photos possible so that the person making the request can read the inscription and, most important, will be proud to make the photo part of the family's genealogical record. I often make more than one trip to the cemetery for a single photograph because I won't know until I find the marker that the sun is in the right place. I'd rather make an extra trip than post a photo with a shadow across the inscription.

I keep a small broom, clippers, and paper towels in the trunk of my car so I can clean the marker or clip foliage as needed. When the gravesite appears to have no marker, I go to the cemetery office to learn whether the marker is actually there, but has sunk below the surface of the ground and needs to be reset. When there actually is no marker, I stick a small construction flag in the ground and take a photo, taking care to include nearby graves in the photo for reference, and letting the requester know.

Before posting a photograph, I use PhotoShop Elements to align the photo, crop it, and adjust the lighting/contrast. On the rare occasion when weather or other conditions make getting a good photograph impossible, I take the best photograph I can and offer to try again later.

I was a photographer for Honolulu Academy of Arts and Bishop Museum for five years, and I have been the webmaster of The Sprague Project, a genealogical website containing more than 400,000 names, for eighteen years. In, my interests in genealogy and photography have found a home.

RE: Confirmation of headstone dates
Thank you for your email. The dates are very hard to read. I took the picture and increased the size a lot. It was still hard to read but I am sure the dates are now correct.
Anna: 3-12-1908 and 7-26-1993

Anthony: 11-29-1909 and 7-26-1993

If you still feel that the dates are not correct, send me an email. I will increase the size of the photo and email it to you for your interpretation. You may read it differently than I. I will change the dates on F.A.G. records.

Once again, thank you for bringing it to my attention.

RE: Leah (Walker) Murphree
I have the information as shared with me from 22 different Murphree Family tree members. I am not of the line but chose to create the memorial for the benefit of some of the Reagan descendants that I have shared information with. I traced the Reagan line and Louisa Malia Murphree married to a Reagan. Thanks

RE: Ruth Healy Shepard
Hello, Albert,

I have looked at her husbands memorial and it lists her as his second wife. That is what was on the transcript as reported to me. I have no other information. Please let me know if you want any or all of the Shepards transferred over to you. I think there are 17 that I can transfer.

Thank you for writing to me.

Checked my photos and do not have one for the 2nd son... I've delted it since I can't verify a photo.
Thanks, and like your source book of Kendall Co. - my grandfather's farm was about 3 miles from the cemetery.

RE: John Sprague / Thank you

Thank you for your message. Like you, taking a good photo of a gravestone is important to me. Some of these stones aren't going to last forever and it's important to have a record of them. I'm pleased to know adding a memorial for John Sprague and family was helpful to you. Keep up the good work.

RE: Your message:Emelia Helm-Krueger Daume / #48978293
I am helping the wife of my grand-nephew. You submitted a memorial photo of Mrs Emelia Helm-Krueger Daume. You provided this as a caption," Emelia(Emelie) Helm Seidlitz Daume with her children."
Would you please help me as to her birth surname and married names.
Thank you,

Mrs Emelia Helm-Krueger Daume

Albert, I can't impress the appreciation I have for your dedication to this project.

My grandfather is buried at this cemetery, but I can not fine a marker.
His name was Frank Crumm and died Oct 1976.
I did not know if you had any records of unstoned graves or knew anyone who would have that record.

Thank you for you time

RE: Your photo of Sprague ARNOLD's headstone
Thank you for your information.

I originally was led to visit this grave, as a result of a DNA match with a descendant of Gamaliel Arnold.

If my memory serves, has several several trees connecting the Vermont line to Dane County Wisconsin.

While I was astounded that someone in advanced years would travel that far in 1863, albeit with a group of families belonging to a church group migrating to Wisconsin, I drove over to Sun Prairie to see for myself. I found the grave and photographed it with my iPhone.

This is all from memory, I will look into it deeper this weekend, when I will hopefully have time.

Two Col Sprague Arnolds?
