It seems no matter where my family lived growing up we always lived within walking distance of a very old small cemetery. I grew up taking many walks through the cemeteries and reading the enscriptions on the old headstones and wondering what thier lives were like. So when I found this website I thought it was GREAT! I became a find a grave volunteer photographer and really enjoy traveling to all of the cemeteries around Iowa. I don't think many people are aware of the different kinds of unusual cemeteries there are out there! A little about what I do when I get a photo request: I first look to see if there are many in that cemetery listed on find a grave and I print out the list if it isn't very long. Then I go and take photos of not only the one requested but also of any others listed for that cemetery that do not yet have a gravestone listed. I will post the photo. If I have posted one on one of your ancestors and you don't want it there please just let me know and I will remove it! Also I take any photos of head stones with the same last name of the person requested and send them to the requestor if they are not listed on find a grave. The reason I do this is maybe the requestor doesn't know their ancestor is buried in that cemetery or they haven't gotten around to posting that person yet. This way they will have the photo when they decide to post them. Also if I have posted a photo of a headstone on your site please be sure to click on the photo because I always write down what the headstone says. Sometimes a given name might be spelled differently or the dates might be different from what the person has posted. And I will post what ever scripture might be on the stone that I can make out.|

You kindly added a photo to my memorial #32645623 William Hilliard born 1862.
I'm afraid it is the wrong stone. The one you added is for his father, also William Hilliard Sr., Civil War Vet (born 1830).
No need to add the photo to another memorial because there already is a photo which shows the inscription.
Many thanks for deleting the photo.
Kind regards, Ann

I think I saw some pictures you uploaded for this cemetery. Will you be back to this cemetery sometime in the near future? I just discovered I have relatives buried here. Would love if I could get some photos. My 3rd great grandfather, William Russell Laughlin, is buried here. He died 9-2-1902.

In the picture you posted comments section, you tell what the inscription is on each column. I was wondering do you have a close up of each inscription? and would you be willing to email them to me? I would be very appreciative. Let me know, my email is email@example.com
Thanks in advance

My thanks to you for your time and efforts to post photos of my family's graves. It has been many years since I was last able to visit Lakewood. Now I know I can see these remembrances of their lives anytime I wish. A kind gift!

Thanks for your quick reply.

I am researching the Hansel family of Iowa and have a question about your memorial for Arthur s. Hansel.
At the beginning you say that he married Helen Werner. Later you say that his spouse was Helen L. Edwards.
Of course, the picture of the gravestone just shows the name of Helen L.
Do you have additional information?
Thanks for any help.

You are most welcome. When I saw the stunning photos you took, I had to know more about the story of this little child. Heartbreaking.
But her story is now told, and that's the beauty of FindAGrave. Working together, I think that we can scratch the tip of the iceberg. So many stories to be told, so little time to tell them.
Thanks for your note and for posting the photo! :)

Thanks so much for the picture of the headstone. Greatly appreciated. :*)

I don't think there is a stone for Rena but I added a page for Emilie Olson. Thanks again.
