The regimental history I have written on the 38th Indiana Infantry regiment has officially been published! Feel free to visit my author webpage for more information:
During the many hours spent researching 38th Indiana soldiers, I have developed what some might call an obsession in trying to locate the graves of ALL the members of this regiment (1,715 total...I think). I realize I'll probably come up a little short when all is said and done due to the unknown disposition of battle casualties, unmarked graves and etc., but so far, I've positively identified 1,339 (78.1 percent) of them. I have received a TON of help from numerous Find-A-Grave photo volunteers on this project and I just wanted to take the time and thank ALL of you...you all have helped tremendously with this "quest" and I truly appreciate you all taking the time out of your schedules to hunt down and photograph gravestones for this project. Only 376 left to go! All of you who send updates and corrections to me for the memorials...thanks so much, and keep 'em coming! If there is anything I can try to do for you in my area, please let me know and I'll do my best to see that it is done!
William Sisson 40420116 May I have permission to use your photograph of William & Sarepta Sisson's tombstone for a DAR application? We need it because It shows the complete date of death. Thank you. Judy Belford
Robert Dunn 91942820 I believe I have found the marker for Robert Dunn. I created the memorial from a Cemetery Book and it listed the inscription as "Co. E. 35 Ind. Inf." However, the marker looks like the inscription is "Robt Dunn, Co. E. 38 Ind. Inf." I'll go ahead and post the photo to the memorial; if you think it is not the correct match, please let me know & I'll remove the photo.
G W Riggle Traie, My husband and I were at the TennBeard cemetery today and I say that you had a request for 3 markers, This on is hard to read but we did make out G W Riggle and it was 33 rd or 38th Inf. Hope this is the one you are looking for, and if not just delete it. Betty and John
Harold Carter # 5100052 Hello Traie, I was wondering if you still have the photo of Harold Carter's memorial? If so, would you do me a favor and upload it to his wife's memorial # 142136439 ? If you don't have it any more, would you allow me to copy this photo, giving you credit in the caption?
This is my husband's aunt and I had been searching for her burial site.
RE: William Smith 38th Indiana Hello Traie, Sorry about the error on my part. I believe you will find the incorrect photo has been removed. If not, please contact me and I will once again tackle the issue. Regards, Brent A. Find-A-Grave Volunteer.
Question about your photo request Hello! I did some searching today for John Matthews in Hobart Cemetery. I did find an old grave with the same name, but it's marked 9 IND. INF. No dates on it. Is this the one you're looking for? Thanks!
