Bio Photo Can't read a grave stone?
Don't use chalk!
It's as simple as using your LED Flashlight!

This is the safest method of reading these old graves and I feel the most effective. We use an LED flashlight, the higher the lumens, the better. The flashlight we use has 1700 lumens. Shine from left to right, at the edge of the grave, the letters pop right out. We have not had to use foil since we've learned this trick. Some folks say use a blacklight, but our regular LED flashlight works. We recently upgraded from an 860 lumen flashlight (EA4) but it worked great as well.
When the sun is too bright, we use our umbrella to provide shade, then light it up.

RE: Daniel Murray - Blairsville PA
It's my pleasure to help in any way. Keep an open mind however and don't rule out a relationship based on an absence of mention. Daniel may have moved away from the region at an early age and was forgotten. I've seen it happen many times with folks who moved from Pennsylvania to the west and sometimes there is family dissension. A record of James will, or of his brothers, could be helpful.
Good luck in your search.

RE: Daniel Murray - Blairsville PA
I don't have any information that his father was Daniel. But doing a little research I suspect he is a son of James and Susanna(Schaeffer) Murry. James is a son of Jeremiah and Ann Montgomery of Ireland. This family is buried at the Murrysville cemetery, Murrysville, Westmoreland, Pa. Daniel's m.i. is S. for Schaeffer I expect. Other Murrys of that region also have that m.i. All theory, but perhaps a place to look. Perhaps a will/testament can be found. There are several trees with this family in, using the Murry spelling.

RE: Daniel Murray
There still may be a connection, even if not directly through Daniel Murray. Were the names of his children and their spouses familiar? Perhaps I could take you further down his blood line if you could take me up yours? Who do you have or know that led you to Daniel Murray? My direct line is James Alexander Murray, his daughter Minnie Cora, and her daughter Minnie Evelyn. Then there are all the families that married into the Murray families and their descendants (and lots and lots of cousins I have met before and since).
I am familiar with Indiana and Westmoreland Counties, and I try to visit family in New Kensington every year or two. Let's keep looking!

RE: Daniel Murray
My 3rd great grandfather Daniel Murray was born in Ireland in 1807. He arrived in Allegheny Co. PA in 1838 and was naturalized on 11 Oct 1841. He married Elizabeth Everett in 1843 and had four children: James Alexander 1846-1932 (my 2nd great grandfather) m. Margaret L. Barger; John 1847-1929 m. Lucinda Dunlap 1853-1939; William 1851-; and Margaret A. 1853- m. William A.McClelland.
Daniel Murray is buried at Sarah Furnace Cemetery where one of my cousins replaced his gravestone in 1999.
Sarah Furnace Cemetery is in Clarion County. I saw you signed your message as Julie in PA, what county do you live in? There are several members of Daniel Murray's family still living in PA. If you can tell me your family connection to Daniel, perhaps I can point you toward which family is closest to you.

Howard Murray
Is that Howard Smith Murray 1895-1973? I just linked him and a couple siblings to their parents yesterday.

My Phoebe Ann Murray is an older sister of William 1873-1954 who is Howard Smith Murray's father.

Yes, my David Nichelson is a younger brother of Benjamin Nicholson and they both fought in the Civil War. I know the story of Benjamin and that he is buried at Andersonville with incorrect spelling of the last name. I have a photo of it.

Nicholson and Murray surnames
I am a Nicholson and a Murray - where do you fit in???

Phoebe Ann Murray married John Hall Nichelson; only his father, David, spelled the name Nichelson; most of his brothers are Nicholson; but Jacob spelled it Nickelson. John Hall Nichelson is my great-grandfather.

You're above captioned memorial is a duplicate of memorial #53096434 for Benjamin Myers. I have requested an 'edit' for the birth year of 1789 for Benjamin Myers.

Would you be willing to 'delete' your memorial, as it was entered in '2016'... the other contributors's memorial was added in '2010'.... I don't like to send 'merge' edits to Find A Grave as recently they have ignored 'requests' I have sent.

Thank you,
Contributor 47016947

You have posted a marker photo on memorial # 63015248 but that is a duplicate memorial. Can you please add your photo to the original memorial # 22895916 because it is clearer than the one that is on that memorial. Thanks
