I just seen your note on you left on his memorial years ago. Levi is my 5th great-grandfather. I see that your grandparents are John Hopkins Sr. and Sue Emma Millard. Would like to correspond with you more. You can e-mail me if you wish, you can find my email on my profile. Just put Millard family in the subject line. Hope to hear from you soon.

RE: John Carter

I lost my first email/reply to you tonight when I accidentally hit a key on my computer so I don't think you would have gotten it.

Why not use my regular email which is I will send you some of my Carter research so we can compare notes.

I have several people trying to help me solve the issue of who John A. Carter's father was.

The father of John may have been a Stephen Carter but there were three living in Colleton County at the same time on the census. One was born in the late 1700s, another about 1800 and the third about 1810.

John may have been a grandson of Jacob.

Bill Corbin has connected his family to the Stephen Carter born about 1800 but I can't make the names of the children on the census and the date fit with that Stephen Carter. The other Stephen Carter uses a K for a middle initial and the children and dates don't match for my Stephen Carter.

Take my word for it that I have a real problem connecting John A. Carter with anyone before him. I know that someday I will accidentally make contact with someone who has proof positive for me but until now it just hasn't happened.

Last week I discovered the memorial done by Ally on for Madison K. Carter. I had been trying to find his descendants for years and I found 2 on A number of the family of Madison was buried in the Bonaventure. This is what caused me to bring up the hard to read date on John A. Carter's headstone.

I would appreciate any help you may give me. I have used many bits and pieces so far to created the family of John and Leuranie Warren Carter.

I believe that two heads are better than one and the more the merrier. I always tell others by sharing we are able to find and figure out things that one person may never come up with.

If you live in the Colleton County area maybe you could visit the Carter's Ford Cemetery and try to make out the inscription on the gravestone better.

Email me and I will send you some files of my research.

Thanks again.

John Carter

Thank you so much for maintaining memorials for

My name is Linda Carter Smith and I do family research on my dad's family the Carters of Colleton County, SC. which I share with other Carter family researchers.

Could you please examine the dates for the John Carter memorial 35756113? I emailed Tom and told him the following information. I believe that the date 1803 in not correct.

John A. Carter was married to Leuranie Carter memorial 35590767.

The headstone at Carter's Ford Baptist Church Cemetery for John A. Carter is barely legible. The dates our family uses for his death is July 20, 1909 (aged about 92 years at death) based on his entry in the book "Cemeteries of Upper Colleton County, S. C." Even the 1909 is hard to read and I thought that it was possibly 1903 but I have nothing to verify either 1909 or 1903 except the reference in the book above.

John A and Leuranie Carter are believed to be my father's grandparents.

I have already linked John to Leuranie to help you see all the connections with their children.

Thanks so much.

RE: Memorial #35756113
The transfer of John Carter is complete. He, as I discovered later, was not part of my wife's direct line to Jacob Carter b c 1720.

You are welcome. No problem. Unlike some others on Find A Grave, I am willing to transfer anyone that can add information.

RE: Transfer?
I need your Find A Grave number and the memorial number for the person you want transferred. It is easier if you use the Edit button on the memorial page to write the originator as that shows the exact memorial you want transferred.
