My name is Jayson Cooper. I recently lost a very close family member. Just before he died began my interest in genealogy. It began when I realized that never again would I hear my grandfather or my grandmother tell me of how things used to be. I would never again hear how my great grandmother would refuse rides because she was "in a hurry." Never would I again hear how my great grandparents travelled the country by wagon. Never again would I hear these stories from my grandparents. |
You never know when your last day to tell a story will be. You should make sure that your stories are documented. I had always planned to record my grandfather's stories in his own words. I will not have that chance now. I may never know what brought my great great grandparents from Arkansas to Texas, but my grandchildren shall know the stories of how I ended up here.
Find a grave is a great service, and is becoming a great resource for the study of one's family. Utilize it's resources, and if you find yourself in a cemetary look to see if you can find a grave that may be requested, that is the only way that this continues to work.
Some of the names that I am researching are,
Ashley, Bearden, Brennan, Brickner, Coffman, Cooper, Green, Hines, McLain, Michener, Smith, Titus, and Underwood.

One of these days I really need to get on Facebook, but as of now I am not. My kids will be home from college on Christmas break soon - maybe I'll have them visit your FB page for me. Best contact for me is email: firstname.lastname@example.org. Here is a link to my family tree page for Charles Anderson Cooper: http://trees.ancestry.com/tree/33379917/person/18445121631 Charles A. Cooper would be our common ancestor (by marriage for both of us, it appears). He was Olive's 1st husband. Her 2nd husband was my grandfather Charles Vale. My grandmother died when my dad (John Vale) was young. Olive became his step-mom. Charles Calvin Cooper would have been my dad's (9 yr older) step-brother. The only photos I have of Olive are a family photo when she was a young girl, and her wedding photo to my grandfather. I'd love to see the photo you have of her, as well as photos you have for Charles A. Cooper and any of the other children. I'm just trying to piece my dad's step-family together. He rarely talked about them, and when he did he didn't say much. Interesting you have a photo of Charles A. with last wife "Hazel"...I found marriage record for Charles Anderson Cooper and Theresa Davis m. 10 Sept, 1960 in Whitman Co., WA. Was he married 3 times? Check out my family tree pages. You can see the documents and very few photos I have of these folks. If you have trouble accessing anything, let me know.

First, let me say I love the way your name is spelled. My son's name is Jason. My husband's middle name is Jay. We seriously considered spelling my son's name with a "y", but eventually caved to the pressure of the common spelling. I like it with a "y". :o)
OK - to business: Is is OK with you if I post your pic of the memorial program for Charles Anderson Cooper to my Ancestry.com family tree? Charles Cooper married Olive Herrick. Olive married 2nd to my grandfather Charles Vale.
Also, if you are related to Charles and Olive Cooper I'd be interested in exchanging info, though I confess I do not know too much about Olive outside of her connection to my Vale family.

Did any of your Coopers come from South Carolina? I might have some information that would be helpful if they did.

Shirley "Ashely" Smith's husband Jackie Royce Smith is my third cousin once removed. His Great-Great-Grandfather Abraham Hogland is my Great-Grandfather on my Father's side.
I have quite a bit of family genealogy done and enjoy talking to and exchanging information with all family members no matter how close or distant.
Sorry about the delay in getting back to you.
Thanks so much for the photos of my great great aunts and their family.
